Lost all my coolant
"MG Rover mechanics" arrived this afternoon, to see what the problem was.
Dave, the boss man, came with Dan & his mate from Somerset, who have joined the team.
Took them about 5 mins. to tell me it was HGF
The good news was they could start on he job immediately :broon:
What fantastic service & value for money. They started at 2.30pm, worked through heavy showers & the last 2 hours in the dark, always with good humour. They also kept me informed what they were doing & why.
They fitted uprated head gasket,all new belts, tensioner, water pump, exhaust manifold gasket, oil filter, oil & coolant, then bled the system.
All for well under £400 :woohoo:

This isn't going to help you but it may be of use to other members and I've not seen it mentioned on the forums or 'how tos', I have an acquaintance who was a 'head of' at lotus and he drives an Elise which he says has the same engine as mine. The (hopefully) useful tip I received when I bought my mg was to leave the engine running and let the cooling system transmit heat away from the engine after a hard run. He said the temp gauge will show very high readings but it prevents damage to the engine and so future failure. Could this be what happened after silverstone? I assumed it would be common knowledge but I've not yet seen it mentioned here or any other forum...sorry if I'm teaching granny to suck eggs...and I'm sorry for not mentioning it sooner if it might have saved you some bother.

Funny you should say that.
After we finished,Ian [Captain Slow] said the same thing, but I had already switched off for 10 mins.
Could be why ;
He also mentioned not to put the hand brake on as the hot pads tend to "weld" onto the discs.
Much running back to cars to start up & release H/brake

I recognise that lot. Dave, Dan and Carl. Glad its fixed and the head gasket is sorted. On my other TF I had same work as you + new stainless pipes for a little bit more than you paid and was happy after some small issues were sorted.
