Had an issue with my X-Fi titanium sound card,so I've lost the sound console till October when creative bring out the update

I like everything else :broon: apart from the control panel not being present.

The control panel is on the start menu. Right click the button.

David Aiketgate wrote: Still struggling with the above faults, but overall 10 is performing much better/faster than 8.1 even in a 'wounded' state. So I've decided to stick with it and hope a fix arrives from microsoft.

It appears that this problem is quite common, judging by the internet traffic on the subject.

So to sum up, I still don't have a proper start button/menu function. I can live with that.
Cortana doesn't work, but I don't really want to have conversations with my laptop.
The new browser is absent, but honestly I prefer Firefox. EDGE DID HAVE SOME NICE FEATURES. I especially liked the ability to write or draw onto a web page.

My verdict, for what it's worth:- Don't rush to download it but overall it is certainly better than 8. I can't judge if it's better than 7.

For Cortana you need to install the English (United Kingdom) language pack... then she'll spring to life!

Thanks Adam, but I'm already on English(UK). Maybe I need to download English(US) too

I seem to have discovered another fault. I tried to install English US just in case that was the issue.

It downloaded the pack OK, but won't install it!

Tried with Italian and same result, it just hangs after download!

Anyone else have this?

Did you download and install from the ISO on a memory stick? If not then maybe try that as upgrades are always a bit fraught with any OS.

Weird why Cortana isn't working as the British pack got mine going straight away... check all language and region settings are UK and timezone too... any slight deviation seems to send her bananas!

I downloaded Win10 yesterday. Overall it took about 8 hours :(
One factor with the long installation was from using wireless.
I tried a straight download first and the computer crashed. After 2 hours when it was 95% loaded I got the dreaded blue screen.
The next attempt was using a memory stick which did work but still took a couple of hours. Then came a couple of hours
of updating followed by the installation.
Fortunately, once all was said and done it works well.
I haven't tried Cortana yet and haven't set up any other new features but it's looking very positive. :broon:

I set up a recovery drive on an external hard drive and reset my laptop from that. I now have a fully working Windows 10.

This method does mean that you lose a lot of third party programmes so you need to be sure you have the discs and codes.

It does provide you with a list of programmes removed.

The only program I seem to have lost at this point is the fingerprint recognition on my HP laptop.
Unfortunately it's an orphan program as the company that developed it was bought by Apple so that they could use their technology on the iphone6.
I had hoped it would be functional until I replaced my laptop but it looks like I may be stuck with passwords. :pinch:
Edit: I tried to reinstall the drivers from the HP website but Win10 won't let me do it apparently because the administrator says no...but I am the administrator :bang:

Edit again: Much, Much, Worse! I figured I would lose the records of my (4000-odd) solitaire games but assumed that they would leave the game alone (It's the only computer game I can stand playing) I found various versions of solitaire under games...Spider Solitaire, Polar Solitaire, Lapland solitaire and many other strange and exotic versions, but no Plain Old Solitaire! sigh* I did find sort of a version that looks like it is under development but it doesn't play like the old one and the graphics are downright manic.
Looks like I may have to dig out a deck of (real) cards!

Yet another Edit...Found out that I wasn't getting Cortana as I entered my region as Canada (Where I am!) It turns out that MS isn't releasing Cortana in Canada as they think we speak French. Quebec...where they speak French is 3000 miles away from me (Microsoft headquarters is 200 miles away from me!) I solved that by changing my region to United States but still have to figure out how to make Cortana do whatever it is Cortana does!
