Firstly I had the spares bonnet mounted & had gas struts to help with the lift so I wasn't found dead by the side of it every time I checked it vital fluids. More recently I've had them bracketed off the rear door, which is a straight drop, however there's little chance of getting them back on. Fortunately I've never had a puncture on any of them, non the less even looking at the spare on my friends 101 Forward Control gives me chest pains.

I think the 101 had 900x16 tyres on ..there is a lot of weight in the series wheels...a guy I met had large wide wheels....Carlos fandango type on the 110 defender...when I passed him a wheel from the workshop..I was suprised it was a qauter of the weight of a standard series...but I reckon not has strong so maybe not so good when you want to drop your landrover from the sky.

There's lots of wonderful milatary landrovers to choose from...still very usable on the civilian high street...take this fantastic beast...it is a series 3..109 inch armadillo mine protected land rover ....ideal if suicide bombers are spotted on the high street....run over them with this if the blast tips the land rover over ..no worries it has a roll bar design to easily roll back over.

The ford anglia with the carlos fandango wheels.

What year was that advert?
The reg number off the anglia is now bolted to a porsche...I wonder if they know of its history?

Carlos fandango being a made up name...clever advertising for everyone to remember a advert from that far back...fandango...a Spanish dance.

And fandango is in Queens bohemian rhapsody lyrics

I've had these queen lyrics in my head all night has earlier on just like these lyrics ...thunderbolt and lightning..very very frightening. ...there was indeed a thunderbolt and lightning...and it was very frightening has the room lit up ..almighty bang and me and the cat dived for cover.

My sister had one for a while, She got over it pretty quick.
I always thought it was as much fun as driving a bus (confirms merc as bus makers) pretty to look at but as boring as batshit to drive, they weren't a sports car's arsehole! More of a boulevardier.

As for Mil-spec Land Rovers how about the Aussie SAS long-range patrol vehicle.

The Royal Australian Army has been selling off heaps of 4x4 & 6x6 Landies and Unimogs at auctions recently, pity I'm not cashed up ATM. :nonod:

Well, it's gratifying to see that on a minority interest motoring forum that there's recognition for the mighty 101. I'm a member of loose affiliation of local non main line Land Rover owners & we have three 101s in our “detachment” (not a word we would normaly use, but sort of appropriate here). All are V8s, one bigger than the others; a rag top, a radio bodied & an ambulance, one of sixteen Victoria Cross 101s, which is now an amazing motor home. I've driving stuff from moped to artics, however these are something else, you have to drag in every ounce of concentration to make a good job of getting them down the road, if one neuron misses its connection you can end up with a tank slapper. They weren't very popular with the sqadies who would regularly tip them over. There are plans to have all three down at Billing Land Rover shindig for the first time this year. However the Lightweight & I won't be with them, my wife refuses to spend part her annual holidays looking at things she can see through the kitchen window throughout the year. That 8x8 is a bit of a monster, I'd like to have ten minutes in that.
