Well, now that I’ve been rumbled by @BruceTF135 I will get it done this weekend.
I did notice the coolant level was a little low below the internal marker, I did a quick check of the two front bleed points and aside from having to poke the heater one lightly, no air.
I also did the exhaust gas in the coolant test with a kit I have (I had to fix the head gasket on my Rover P6B a while ago) and the liquid stayed blue.
I also ran a diagnostic actuator test of the radiator fan and engine bay fan and they all worked.
I let the car idle for a while and the gauge stayed just below half way. This weekend I’ll fit the alarm and check the rear bleed point.

Low coolant alarm now fitted. I also took the opportunity to clean out the coolant tank. I think it hadn’t been done since a possible HGF in its past history, there was a coating of oil slime inside (though the coolant was bright and clean). The heat resistant epoxy I used takes 24 hours to cure, once that’s done I’ll again check the bleed points and see if it behaves and keep an eye on the coolant level.

No one can accuse you of being hasty...................you didn't exactly rush into it! 🤣

Posted 6 months 2 weeks ago #221147😁😂 That’s the problem when you have two other British cars vying for attention, my P6B had to have some fettling to get it through rego and club plates and my Rover 75 needed some work on the brakes and some breather gauzes replacing inside the cam covers 🙂No one can accuse you of being hasty...................you didn't exactly rush into it! 🤣

Finally identified the problem, temperature sender, the gauge was all over the place like you’d associate with a bad connection. If I wiggled the plug the gauge would move around so I cut the plug off and connected a new connector and wire and it behaved for all of 5 minutes and if I wiggle the new connector same results so looks like the sender is iffy.

Close the connector a touch with some pliers so it is a tight fit on the sender.

Just to close out this issue and update on the fix...
I ordered a replacement sender and fitted it, but that didn't work at all. Gauge didn't climb at all, if anything it dipped the other way.
I ordered another sender from DMGRS along with a couple of new wiring loom connectors and this weekend fitted the new sender and crimped in the new connector to the loom and it works perfectly.
Temperature gauge is back to reading just below half way and on a run out behaved perfectly.
