Brake Upgrade kits

Many people find the standard brakes adequate at best, and often the first choice for an upgrade is to swap the fronts to the AP setup.

This does improve the overall braking, however it does shift the brake balance forward, as the rear setup is not altered. It also means that those with 15" and even some 16" wheels have the added expense of buying a new set of road wheels!

An alternative to the usual AP front calliper/304mm rotor setup is the upgrade kit that I will be trialling very soon.
This includes 280 mm discs all round and better callipers front and rear. This means that not only do the brakes remain well balanced, this upgrade will fit beneath all 15 and 16" MGF/TF wheels!

For those who already have the AP setup, the rear upgrade will be available separately.
I believe there will also be a 300mm rotor/ calliper upgrade to replace the AP fronts as well.

Some more information on these upgrades that I will be trialling soon.

A Northern Motor Sport Company will provide 285mm disc/rotors with lightweight racing callipers/pads and SS braided brake hoses.

The Basic package for the front will be a set of SS braided hoses, two plain 285mm discs(separate bell and rotor type), a pair of 4 pot racing callipers with Greenstuff pads.All bolts, fitments supplied.

The Basic package for the rear will be a set of SS braided hoses, two plain 285mm discs(separate bell and rotor type), a pair of 2+2 pot racing callipers with Greenstuff pads.All bolts, handbrake cable and fitments supplied. The rear callipers operate two pistons for braking, with an additional pair of pistons operating separate pads for the handbrake.


These packages will fit under all standard MGF/TF wheels(inc. 15")

These are bespoke 95.25mm PCD rotors/discs. They are not re-drilled to the correct PCD.

The calliper are full sized lightweight racing callipers. They are not blocked out to fit the 285mm rotors.

it will be possible to buy front or rear upgrade separately.

This basic setup can be upgraded with 6 pot front callipers; Grooved or Grooved/Drilled rotors; and upgraded pads.

There will be an option for those wanting to upgrade their AP setup. This will include 300mm rotors, 6 pot callipers and SS braided hoses.

The total(front and rear) Basic setup will cost £599.

The Basic front setup will cost £349.

The Basic rear setup will be £250.

To upgrade to front 6 pot callipers will be £75 extra. The advantage of 6 pots over 4 is less pedal force required for the same braking force. Better, more even, pad wear and better heat dispersion.

It will be possible to have front and rear upgrades to 300mm rotors.

This looks really interesting. I've go the standard fit APs on my TF160 so getting larger rear disks to give a better balance would be a good option.
I'm assuming those are kit prices and fitting would be extra - I'm not sure I trust myself to mess around with the brakes.

I just upgrade my rears then a better alternative comes along

A couple of questions though

If I have AP's on the front and replace the rears with 300mm's and six pot calipers would the rear bias be too much

Also if I have AP's on the front would the new front 6 pot calipers fit my existing discs

If you can see were I'm coming from, how to I slowly change over to these brakes as they wear out

You could come and do a Border patrol run and combine it with new brakes!:lol:
