Just a quick update - after several hours (over 3 days) with a dremel the resonator box is nearly out :woohoo:
Viper install should be completed tomorrow (hopefully)
BTW - after much cutting we found that the resonated box is held in place by 2 x 8mm bolts that are visable through the wheel arch!
Have to say I can now see why the MK1 had 'breathng' issues this is the most convoluted system I have ever seen
Also, it appears that the air vent on the passenger side on the MK1 is purely cosmetic, as it's completely blocked by the resonator box - WHY????????????????????????

fitted my viper today, so thought i'd put some quick pics up....
i had 57cm of cold air feed, wich was the perfect lengh for me, about 2cm to play with put it in the side vent.
i went for a 45' bend, wich i had to cut down to fit, but it's a nice snug fit.
i used a cable tie to keep the caf in place
the viper was quite solid with out any fixing, but i did i temp fix with cable ties. But i think this will be fine long term
sounds better, and seeing where the old caf's where, behind a nice warm engine and then other just near the side vent, i thing it should help the engine breath nice cool air freely :woohoo:

Nice job Rob
And I am pleased to announce that mine was finished at 4 pm today :woohoo:
I have loads of pics and will post a 'how too' shortly, but here's 2 to keep you going:
And I have to say, coupled with the 52mm throttle body, the car's responsivness has improved loads, plus that really nice tone when you get to 3000 rpm

well thought i might as well get a red one
cost me less then £60 in total.
it seems to be better of the line, pulls better alround! it sounds good as well, not that loud but can hear it!
just that little bit faster pick up when you put your foot down.
can feel the air gettin sucked in if you put your hand at the side vent!
thanks Laz1957 for giving me the idea

Glad it all worked out for you
Mine is a Mk1 F and getting access to the nearside vent was a major headache, as the resonator box is directly underneath air filter box and virtually completely obstructs access to the nearside vent from the engine bay. How easy was access to the nearside vent on the TF?

it was easy, i took the side vent out fixed the caf to it, then feed the caf in that way. was not a prob gettin hold of it from the bay and pulling it though. then clamped to the viper. sounds like you had a bit more fun!
you should get even more gains on a mk1, as the air box was not the best

Ahh - no wonder none of the references to Vipers on TFs mentioned all the hassle I had
I'll make sure I make that clear in my 'how to'
Difference on Mk1 F is really obvious - idle went up to 1200 rpm until I reset the the system, so quite a bit of fuel economy.
Not surprising really:
Old system: over 3m long, 540 degrees of bends and 60mm diameter intake in engine bay.
New system: about 1.5m long, 180 degrees of bends and 76mm intake in nearside vent.
So basically, in the MK 1, the new system is shorter, less convoluted, with larger intake and better location
But much more important is the massive improvment in throttle response and and the wonderful sound - my 19 year old son couldn't stopp grinning when we took it for a test drive :woohoo:
BTW does anyone know what the situation is regarding access to the air vent on a Mk2 F?
