Broken cap could be an option.

How about the idea to check the front fan fuse at first ?
What VIN is your MGF. May be it's still the old setup with 15amps only. Prone to fail
Fan fuse is located inside the bonnet fusebox. Replace it with 20amps in any way.

Good point Dieter! :yesnod:

I love this forum . What a wealth of information. Thanks guys, this is what I have found so far .

Disconnected temp sensor,- - No fan .
Checked fuse , - - Blown.
Replaced fuse ,- - No fan.

So Im going under next t see if the fan is kaput.
I've ordered a pressure cap as well , Says it has a brass valve not plastic ,?
I.ll let you know what I find.

Well now I'm stumped .
The fan works , with a feed directly across it , So thats ok .
There is No voltage on the fan plug with the sensor disconnected and the ignition on.
There is voltage at the fuse.

Sorry to keep asking questions , but any other ideas???

Check fuse 6 in the fuse box under the steering wheel that is also for the rad fan. :yesnod:

Ok got a result. The engine has to be running , not just ignition on , the fan started as soon as the plug was disconnected, So its just wait for the pressure cap to arrive and see if that cures it.

- wire broken on the way to the fan plug. Below the car.
- relay broken (less common)

Talking of rad fans, how long should they run? Mine seems to run at least twice as long as in my other cars.

I'm lucky in that the code reader I have also tests various actuators, so I can test the rad fan by pressing a button (and fuel pump, MIL light, and other stuff) on the reader ;)
