Getting under the car

I don't have any equipment to raise my car.

Is this a good option?

That looks OK but I would go for a higher lift jack if at all possible. You shouldn't have to use blocks of wood etc on your jack to get the car to a reasonable height (That gets into your safety question!) Only use the jacking loops under the car don't jack under the sills. There are two loops on the rear subframe and one at the front. (All at the car centerline)
Never work under the car with just a jack supporting it. Place two jackstands under solid points on the subframe, remove the jack and give the car a bit of a wiggle to make sure it is stable before getting underneath. If only jacking one end wheel chocks
should be used. A pair of safety glasses will help keep debris out of your eyes.
It really all common sense.
Oh yeah...A creeper will make working under the car much more pleasant .

That's poor min.height for an MGF. Would recommend to get a similar hydraulic jack 2t as low profile jack.
The are a little bit more expensive but you will like it.

Yeah, I was just going to suggest getting a low profile jack, as it can be difficult to get a standard one on the front jacking point because of the low bumper/splitter.

Good point. I can only just fit my jack under the jacking points. Sometimes if the car has been sitting a while I have to give it a bit of a lift to get the last couple of cm clearance. If I install lowering pins I will have problems! :ohmy:
I have been thinking of getting a set of "Race Ramps" I don't know if they are available in the UK but consist of moulded ramps with the ramp portion removable to make it easier to get under. Pretty cool things!

I tend to use the car jack to lift the car slightly to get my trolly jack underneath or park in the road with 2 wheels just on the edge of the pavement which gives an istant 6" lift on 1 side.

OK, after much doubt, I have the car on axle stands :woohoo:

I have loosened the 2 bolts on the hanging hook and the bolt on the backbox strap in preparation for the new exhaust. The bolts on the cat won't budge but I have some Plusgas on the way

2 of the bolts are easy to access but is there any trick to getting at the furthest one?

Also I won't have the Plusgas until tomorrw - is it OK to leave the car on axle stands for that length of time?
