All of the above! Had a Spitfire 18 years ago. Wife said she fancied travelling round Europe in something similar when the kids leave home (at least 8 more years!). I flicked through the internet bored one day looking at MX5s and the like and noticed the price of MGFs. Saw one local 3pm on a Sinday, garage closed at 4.30. Got there at 4 and drove out at 5!!! So not necessarily a wise choice... £1400 including hard top and new HGF repair including water pump, may have taken more care if I'd found the T-Bar first!
Wishing I had £10k for a new TF or £17k for the new "no 1" TF...

I wanted some thing different, some thing that would look a lot more expensive that what it cost and I had always liked them from the day they were first released.
After all a mid engined sports car, wowwww what's not to like????? :broon:

My choice was summed up one day when I was showing it off to an old chap I know and was telling him that it was this or the Mazda.
He said something along the lines of 'But where's the romance in telling someone you drive a Mazda'
I know it has it's problems, but oddly, I think that's all part of it's appeal.
I know I made the right choice.

Started out looking on Autotrader and eventually the "economical" bit vanished and started looking at BMW E46 coupe. Even made a few enquiries but then I think I looked at the price of a Z3 and at the bottom of the page was a "vehicles you may like" thingy with the TF, a new MR2 and the Vauxhall VX220.
Had a browse, researched a bit and then decided I was only young once and to go for the TF as I found a few in my budget.
Have not looked back since, the only thing I might be tempted by would be a Z4 as they're coming down in price quite rapidly. I used to think a Honda S2000 would be good but the mpg is ridiculous!
Thing is its now got to the point I have spent half the price of the car in mods, its a modern classic, if I ever got something else it wouldnt take much to save up the extra cash I'd get if I sold it so would probably garage it for special occasions. Would give me the opportunity to strip it, clean it and put it all back together (as ex forces that sentence just set my heart racing!!).
I bought my MG to show off, to be seen in, to be envied. Its exactly the same reason I bought the Ducati. You only live once, why hide away where no one can see you?

Saw a good TF for sale locally whilst browsing autotrader but it was already sold, thought well if i cant have the power may as well have a convertible even if it is a hairdressers car, took one for a test drive and realised what a blast it was to drive and that was me hooked :broon:

George took us on a long journey in that first 12 months, and then, after Bri died, he led me to the MG community, many, many friends and a new chapter in my life.
I now have Ophelia, as George blew a rear tyre on the M6 last year and ended up as a wreck. It never crossed my mind not to have another F/TF, and a lot of George lives on in Ophelia, though he has, sneakily, infiltrated many Fs and TFs both in the UK and abroad!
