:dunno: if there was no mark on the front of the crank there might be one on the fly wheel

Its a camshaft locking tool and do you remove the starter motor cos you lock it in via the hole?

You're very close Puddles but you don't put the blue tool in the hole left after removing the starter motor.

You remove the starter motor so you can lock it onto the cam shaft

You lock the cams with the above tool, but remove the starter motor so the flywheel can also be locked with another tool (Or with some bodging if your that way inclined), that way nothing can move and mess up the timing when you put the new belt on?

Sorry for the delay gentlemen, yes Mal was quite right. :woohoo:
Before you can remove the timing belt you need to remove the lower crank pulley..
To do this you need to lock the flywheel, hence the reason for removing the starter motor.
:welcome: to the MG Quiz Mal. Tradition has it (at least it used to be this way) that you now set a new question. It can be anything MG related, just use the site search facility to check if the question you want to ask has been asked before.
If you're stuck, just let me know and I'll set a new question.

Thank you for the welcome
Ooh, setting a question... I have something in mind but need to get my facts right first.
Plus its late and I need to be up in 5 hours for a 12 hour day... Oops.
With that in mind I will have a think after I've been to sleep

An old favourite of the quiz.
If you need any help on this one do a quick search using the T-Bar Search facility, found on the top right of the screen, on the offspring of a donkey and a horse (strictly, a male donkey and a female horse), typically sterile and used as a beast of burden.
