Thinking of selling Slave 1...
I LOVE slave 1 but I can't see much choice. Basically, without going into too much personal details my brother has just found out that he has a 4yr old daughter and is seeing her several days a week. The trouble is he can't drive and therefore if I can get a bigger car it means he can take his daughter to more places. Also I must admit having Slave as my one and only car is starting to grate on me slightly in terms of the lack of space.
I've been offered a ZS 120 at a great price and I'm wondering what I should do. :dunno:
I love top down driving but I don't know if that's enough any more. Maybe I should make the sensible decision now and pick up another F further on down the line. What do you guys think?

Conveniently, my wife started to learn to drive last year so I could justify a second car - it's a cheap Fiat Punto... nothing special at all, but cheap to run, cheap to buy, cheap to insure, and she's passed her test in it so everyone's happy
Couldn't you do something like that?

You must love your brother.
You could get a cheap saxo or something and still keep the F, but it is your decision. You won't get a lot for the F at this time of year and it is a bit of a marmite car to some (not me ).

While I commend you for taxiing your brother about, he should not expect you to change cars because of it. He should be more proactive and learn to drive. My wife was the same until we talked about moving house, she learnt to drive after being together some 23 years! So it can be done.
Obviously I would say get the ZS! But being the site owner of said forum I would say that! :dc:
A toughie for sure, but having two cars is about running costs, multi-car policies do help to reduce premiums but you still need tax, MOT and servicing etc.

Unfortunately I've examined the option of 2 cars and I just can't do it financially.
I agree with you though... last summer I was madly in love with her and happily proclaimed to all that would listen that the only way Slave 1 and I would part is if she was completely written off. It's strange how circumstances can change so dramatically in such a short space of time.

Lol yes I love my brother very much. He's had a rough life and his daughter means the world to him and would really give him a fresh start so if I can help I will.
I know she's a marmite car but I'm hoping someone like me will see her & love her and hopefully pay what she's worth. In terms of the money I've spent I don't expect to recoup anywhere near that but I'm hoping I'll get more than what you'd get for a standard F.

Lol well there's that as well. I can't tell you how crappy & guilty I feel at the prospect of being the owner of an F/TF forum but not actually owning an F/TF! :frown:
My brother didn't ask me to do this, it's something I want to do for him. Unfortunately he can't learn to drive and a second car is unaffordable so I'm just not seeing much choice.
What do you know of the ZS 120 then?

I see where you are coming from and how you fell obliged to help. But how old is your brother? I'm somewhat surprised he has only known about a 4 year old daughter on the scene, normally the dads are chased by a posse for money!
I know how you feel on being the owner of a forum and not having that car! I was nearly there myself at one point and couldn't do it!
I digress, the ZS 120 is a good model and like any MG using a k-series engine you need to look for service history and either HGF already done or impending. I don't know a great deal about the stepspeed version. What's the year of the 120, trim level and price, I can guide you on if it is priced well.

The ZS is a 54 place, half leather interior, HG done, 180 bodykit on it and I'll PM you the price.

I think you'd come to regret it before too long. You have done so much to Slave in the time you have had her, and she is a very unique looking car.
I can see you wanting to help your brother out, and I think that's fantastic, but there must be other ways round this?
Plus... You can't be a forum owner with the wrong car!

Well I wouldn't hesitate to pick up another F further down the line when I can afford it. I'd love to have one as a weekend car but you're right it wouldn't be as unique as Slave. :frown:

Unfortunately you're likely to find the opposite if you try and sell. People will want to pay less becuase of the modifications.
But that aside, hats off to you for even thinking about putting your brother first like this, a lot of people wouldn't.

that pretty much covers what I wanted to say as well.:dunno:
Are you even sure your brother would be happy for you to do this on his behalf?
But, your car - your choice.:yesnod:
