I also rescue people stuck in lifts. My favourite was before christmas when somebody had got into a lift, turned around to facethe doors that they had just come through and went up to the next floor. The door didn't open so they contaced the control centre all panicky that they were stuck in the lift. We turned up 10 mintes later, pressed the button and they were standing with their back to us. What they didn't realise was that there are 2 sets of doors, one set opens at the platform level and the other set opens at the concourse. The doors were opening, but they had their back to them. They were expecting the same doors to open. Were they drunk? I will leave that to your imagination.
brilliant! lol i hope you pointed and laughed at said drunk person lol

I'm now one of a handful of Specialist Pharmacist Inspectors who work for the Care Quality Commission (was Healthcare Commission and CSCI) inspecting anything to do with medication in adult health & social care. Generally I spend my time working in Lancashire, Manchester, Liverpool & Wirral inspecting standards in nursing homes, dementia homes etc and make sure everyone's getting the right thing at the right time and aren't being neglected or doped up.
It's not always easy and we do see some very disturbing things, but I love my job and love seeing standards improve and making things better for those who can no longer fight their own battles
.....oh and I LOVE prosecuting and/or shutting down arrogant service providers who treat older people like *****!!!
Be nice to your kids....they chose which care home you go to...
Take care,

nice to see someone else in healthcare! i have no kids (obviously) but i'm nice to my mum i wouldn't put her past putting me in a home!

Prior to that I was working in underground mining as an Emergency Services Officer and Mines Rescue Captain; at various mines around Australia, most recently at the now somewhat infamous Beaconsfield Goldmine. Before I got into mining I also had stints at Territory Manager for a Safety company, professional photographer, cook, Barman and recreational dive instructor.
My wife is a nurse currently working in midwifery. Strangely enough a few yeas ago now, I applied and was accepted to do nursing at the local Uni, but my wife decided to do honours and since we could not afford for us both to be studying I let it go and never got back to it.

We current run an antique tool stockists, an auction house, a funeral home, and a hairdressers. I'm suprised no one has made the joke between me owning a hairdressers and the fact I drive an MG. :prrr: Though I don't cut hair, my professional team of leggy blonde babes do that. :awwyeah:

No I don't think so, my career has gone in a different direction now and I have a young family and a mortgage to support. I think I'll stick with risk management for a few more years at least. Then who can tell what the new opportunity/challenge will be.
Its hard to know yet since you have just started but what area of nursing appeals to you the most? Kelli has worked in several areas and has post grad certs in mental health and mid, and she has decided mid is for her. I was always keen on Emergency Medicine, but I guess that is because of my background in pre-hospital care.

Surely, if you were any good at risk management, you wouldn't have a young family to support. :dunno:

Where do I start? :dunno:
Timer served toolmaker in the space and defence sector many moons ago. worked in the electronics industry designing and building process automation machines. Progressed into nuclear inspection and decommissioning robots, design and build. Also senior design engineer with said company and known as the 'bagman' as I was the sole engineer responsible for the design and build of airbag assembly and test cells covering various marques such as Land Rover, Rover, MG, Ford, Toyota, Nissan and the BMW Mini. I designed tooling for drivers, passengers, thorax and a-c pillar airbags.
Along the way I was also a development engineer working on 750cc Superbikes, design, build and machining race parts, engine builds and bike builds. Names I could drop are Ray Stringer and Team Read. At this time I was also doing R&D on BTCC Nissan Primera's that were run by Janspeed, this was back in the early 90's. The work I did was so successful that they came 1st and 2nd in the 93 British Grand Prix support race.
Various job changes, all within engineering, have lead me to my current role of Engineering Project Manager where I manage the large scale welding machines we build and supply to the steel industry. We are talking anything from 2,000kgs up to 40,000kg capacity machines. It is a global business and I do get to go abroad a far bit. Last year was quiet but still manage 3 weeks away on one trip to New Zealand installing a machine as the usual guy was not available, so helps to keep your hand in!
Also obtained a Masters Degree in Engineering and Management, helps to get those elusive jobs!
