Ah yes just had a look on ebay..different qualities and different specs...I think the norbar one is closer to mine.

Mines a britool..wouldn't of liked to buy it new..Helped take some wheels off a crane about 25 years ago and we used a very large power bar with a scaffold tube attached..after both of us did monkey impressions bouncing on the bar with no effect to the wheel nuts ..............the guy I was working with produced the multiplier from his toolbox....we cracked the wheel nuts off quickly using the tool...I was that impressed.I had to get one.

These are what I use at work.

The smaller ones, at about 8,000 Nm

You do not want to know the price :omg:

IBT Torque wrench

For the big bolts, we use pneumatic torque wrenches, which require a crane to hold them in place

You should be OK. .using a good power bar..I only got a multiplier because of the engines I was building had a high angle torque setting after torque down....building at least 1 engine every 2 weeks with a bit of strain injury to my joints got me thinking about reducing the strain to my ever aging body.....well I say tough bolts...but gorsq has just knocked the thought of these bolts being hard to tighten out of the window with his job...like to see some pics of that work environment. ..
Heres a pic of the engine I've just built a multiplier can make the job easier..

Oh no have I hijacked this threaìd again...
Iast time I had the engine cover off on my mgtf I stripped a couple of threads ...the little m6 pins were slack in a couple of holes.so when I take the cover off to check the engine mount..I will put a couple of helicoils in ......

I'd never seen the auto tentioner before and looking at it through a mirror was strange at first ...I went through the procedure 3 or 4 times just to get the feel...good idea.

Yes using my phone because I'm out at moment and for some reason it only shows item number for the norbar 162727681802
Link to that..
Norbar 17220 HT3 Highwayman 5:1 Torque Multiplier 1300 Nm 1/2" Input 3/4" Output
Completed
Alternatively put torque multiplier in your ebay search...the kits come with handles to work within a truck wheel.

Torque multipliers, as well as power torque wrenches, are very useful, even essential when you need them.

However the big problem with them all is that:-
  • you need a large space to use them ion front of the bolt

  • You need a strong "torque reaction" point nearby

The torque reaction point is a solid part, that the torque multiplier head can "lean" or "push" against to apply the torque.

Using them on truck wheel nuts is easy, as you have both space and torque reaction points very close to the bolts.

We would often need to get custom fabricated jigs made to provide suitable torque reaction points.

On one pneumatic torque wrench we managed to shear off a 1 1/2 " (1.5") square drive trying to undo one nut!

I torqued up the head bolts of a Mercedes benz 904 optare solo...I used the multiplier without a reaction point...only to test my new multiplier toy...the head torque was 170nm..+90 degrees+90 degrees...I normally use a 3/4 drive power bar to pull the 180 degrees angle torque...no reaction point ...but just using a 1/2 ratchet ...I could sense the power has the whole engine wanted to spin around....one shout to sam.. my work college. ..he became my reaction point has he held the multiplier with a reaction bar.

So today I was taking the head of a German man...no...I mean a man engine..I'd just had my dinner so pulling on the metre long 3/4 drive bar wasn't doing my digestion any favours....so out came the torque multiplier. ..that's right let's take it easy...

The bolts came undone as if they were never tight. ...but believe me ...they were...after undoing these tight head bolts I saved a couple just to experiment...if I could undo the head bolts using a every day 1/2 inch ratchet.

The answer was yes..the multiplier made it a doddle...without it ..if I'd used the 1/2 inch ratchet on its own there would of been no chance of undoing the bolts...even with a long extention tube the ratchet would of sheered it's teeth .....the multiplier is amazing...why maul yourself to death...
Pictures show the use of the reaction bar through the lifting eye
Used a pencil just to hold the bar up while I took a photo.
