I'm getting to the point where I can take the f for paint; all the farting about jobs are done & everything works. However whilst fueling up this morning I started to reflect on the problematic filling qualities of the f against the effortless filling of tf.
Is it a fair rule of thumb that tfs are better fillers than fs & by fitting a pipe off a later tf all the frustration will evaporate?

Mine's an F and it fills OK. As long as I hold the filler hose at 10 o c!ock position.

The filler pipes are essentially the same, if there is another problem with filling then the issue can be the rubber concertina hose between the filler pipe and the tank is twisted and constricting the flow of fuel into the tank.

Thanks David, well that's a bugger; with Rimmers showing two part numbers for earlier & later cars I thought I'd cracked the problem. There's a late car at my local scrappy which will easily give up its spoils & for a few quid & as I'm over there for some other stuff I'll bring it home, comparing the two next time I've got the engine cover off. As for the 10-00 position I've tried it in every position including twenty past three quarters to from.

I'll be very interested to see a comparison.
It's possible my F has a later filler pipe as it is a mk2. So maybe you have found the problem :shrug: But I've never noticed any correlation between year and filling problems before

Mine is a mk1 & although the numbers are small, the tf owner I now don't have filling problems. So as part of the function of this web site is to inform other of interesting developments, I'll throw this one into the pot to report back on at a later date.

We've never had an issue filling either of our Mk1 Fs, but then maybe the filling system is a bit different in Canada.

Interesting, there are unrestricted filler necks for the Japanese market, which I take to mean that you can stuff in any old nozzle. Is there a difference in unleaded nozzle verses diesel in Canada?

Slow filling on my TF is usually only at one service station, and then only after they renewed all of their pumps. My Duster also has the same problem occasionally with the diesel pump at the same garage.

I think some pumps may deliver at a faster rate, and that it can even vary at the same pump..from day to day.

What's that black canvas thing behind the seats for?

Yes I noticed that on the Rimmers bros site. I presume it is to do with stopping people filling with Diesel, but I don't know why the Japanese one is unrestricted, unless they don't have different sized nozzles.
I also noticed that the Japanese ones are less than a third the price!

I'm going to have a go at a tf filler first to see what happens & then if i'm no better off & for the sake of £18 I'll give the Jap' one a go. However that will have to be on next years budget, by the time I've got the f painted I'll really have over stuffed this one.

At the pumps where only cars normally fill up there is no difference in the unleaded nozzle vs diesel, but at the diesel pumps used by commercial vehicles/HGVs the diesel nozzle is substantially larger. Therefore the fill nozzle for a diesel fueled vehicle can accept the larger nozzle. Petro-fuel vehicles here do have the restrictor in the fill nozzle just like they do in England.

I have a few friends that have Japan-export MGFs, I'll ask if their filling nozzle is different; if there is a restrictor or not.
