I procured a new fob from remotekey.co.uk
and managed to find a programmer to match it to my car without removing the brains here in N.E. England.
Not cheap all in, but better than losing the only fob and being stranded.

I had one with the car that worked and one that didn’t. I bought a second hand fob and programmed all three successfully with Pscan. All three were given new batteries.
Roll on 12 months.
The fob that came with the car was used to drive the car for about 2 hours and parked up. In trying to lock the car with that fob the door button went up and down. Eventually it locked. Back at home (with hearing aids in!) I can hear two actions with the door lock one the big button on the door and something else clicking in the door.
I don’t have that issue with either of the other two fobs.
Explain that?

I remain circumspect regarding most experts these days.
I will post the result though.
I wondered if when sold new the cars came with two fobs of if it was an optional extra at additional cost ?

New cars always came with 2 sets of key and remote.

It makes me wonder how many people have key fobs around the house that would open what are now other peoples cars.

The conclusion I have come to is they simply don't have the necessary software and won't buy it to fix just one TF.
So, I have combined an MG getaway with the Missus and a visit to the MGOC workshop,
They have the gear and it gets us a good run out in an area I have never been to before.
The actual cost inc vat is £40.00 plus the price of a fob which I already have, so I thought pretty good value.
I shall update.
