It's an oil temperature gauge.
Mine works but it doesn't do much. Once the car is fully warmed up it hovers around the 120 mark and only ever creeps higher on sustained runs at 70mph.
I had wondered if it could be replaced with an oil pressure gauge.

It's not an oil pressure gauge it's an oil temp gauge and a bloody useless one at that, it's about as handy as tits on a bull!........just ignore it!

Ive never looked at mine. I think replacing it with a second clock just in case you need to know the time in an alternative time zone would be about as useful

Who worries about the time when you’re out & about.
I changed the clock for an oil pressure gauge & the temperature for one that works. Both are digital & they are accurate, having checked them against known standards.
Pictures if required when I’m home.

That’s just about right David, your gauges have waggy, pointy things, my gauges are LCD & not as pretty as yours. However I can change the colour of the display; red car red readout etc, there’s even a purple for those with armanarth(?) car.
One problem with VVC cars is the additional feed from one of the sensors, this turns on a warning light early & under normal conditions.
More information when I’m home if required.
