One of my customers is wishing to sell her MGTF, I valeted it for her and said I would see if any interest on this forum.

It's an 135, Exterior is blue and it has a grey interior, has a windbreak, brakes looked new, seemed in good condition, has a Longlife stainless exhaust on it and I noticed tyres were good

Vehicle is located in Banstead, Surrey, SM7

Sorry I don't have much more to go on for you, if anyone is interested let me know and I can pass on the ladies details to you.

She said she did a Webuyanycar on it and they offered her about £470 so I don't think she'll be going that route

Good morning

It always amazes me how cheap these cars are in UK. That TF would easily fetch 5k GBP in Spain, probably it would be about the same in the rest of the continent.

I think Fs and TFs are heavily undervalued in their home country. By now 😊

I couldn’t agree more. These cars should be the default setting for anyone wanting a classic sport car on a budget. Instead that accolade goes to the MX-5.
The motoring press are responsible for this in my opinion; any target for comment, preferably British & problematic, to garner column inches will do.
Recently there have been several reassessment reviews by self styled journalist, who have embarked on a journey with minimal expectations, only to return with the polar opposite.
By this time in their life cycle all questionable f & tf are now donating organs to reinvigorate those now in the hands of such as ourselves.
My car has become the focus of those skills I’ve accrued over a lifetime & if at the end of the day it all goes tits up, there not expensive to replace(!).
They are great fun, having one is cheaper than serious stamp collecting, safer than sky diving, cleaner than bog snorkelling & warmer.
And you can knock about with your mates on here, even though they’re miles away & you haven’t a clue what they look like.
Apart from Cobber, whose likeness adorns his picture!
Maybe not knowing what we all look like is a plus.

AP  "Maybe not knowing what we all look like is a plus."  I doubt there is any "maybe" about it!

Having given this a measure of thought & on balance I think you are correct.
Having the thumbnail of Cobber did more than a little to guide me to the same conclusion.

Right!  Quite literally............Here's my thumbnail, in all it's magnificent scared and battered glory!

That I'll teach you for using me as an example! 🤣
It took 5 rounds of reconstruction plastic surgery of that hand to look that good!

I’m not sure how to respond to that, other than mild embarrassment.
Obviously I offer you my sympathy having mangled my index finger whilst repairing my granddaughters rocking horse, I consider myself a fellow traveller.
However having stopped sobbing & blown my nose, I wondered how a chap (bloke) who is so mechanically active, has managed to keep his damaged digit so clean. I wondered whether you might have used an action double!
I dare not offer you an image of my thumb at the moment, as those of a nervous disposition might have sleepless nights.
Actually it isn’t too bad now, I’ve got most of the paint, rust, oil & blood off; the burn marks weren’t all that noticeable in the first place.
Take care old boy , the older you get the longer things take to mend. Reactions aren’t as brisk either as in our younger days & the “getting hands out of harms way” reaction, isn’t as snappy, panic neurones have to push past those less active ones, as they rush to the action centre.
Just a thought.

Why would anyone sell such a beatiful car ?
Looks great, but for me 2 reasons not to buy it :
1 I already have a TF (Spark Edition, so with the same seats)
2 The steering wheel is on the wrong side...

Good luck, deserves a new owner that appreciates classic cars.

There should an official term for the irrational desire to acquire a second MGF / TF despite already owning one. I experienced this recently (I did not acquire the car).

In regards to the main topic, I would suggest:

1. Confirming some of the basics - when was the cam belt last changed / coolant changed.
2. Has the headgasket ever been replaced? If yes, was it an MLS?
 3. Include some photos of areas around the wheel arches for rust (or lack therof).

Yeah maybe you're right. But those jobs are easily done by any competent owner who knows the difference between a spanner and a biscuit.

So, Surrey Pete please can you find out some more information about the car.
No I wont be offering a huge amount above the Webuyanycar price as I'd have to pay to have it transported but the advantage to the current owner is 1 they can be certain that the car would be put back on the road by an enthusiast and 2. they would have the option to buy it back at a reasonable price should they choose.
