I’ve just found them on eBay, there about £8-00 a pair. I typed “car boot lift springs” & I was straight in. I’ve to take my granddaughter home now, so I’ll do a bit more research later. I doubt anything better will pop into the frame.

I eventually bought a couple for £5-50, these were without the clamps. They wouldn’t be used in any case & as out friend comments the likelihood of two being required is small.
Thank you for that tip, even if isn’t a success I’ll end up with a couple is springs, which might form the basis of a high power catapult to knock those bastard magpies out of the sycamores.

Sorry I am a little late to this thread. Can you go into detail of where you got the components from, and possibly a wiring diagram please

Its covered elsewhere so probably worth using the Search feature to find more detailed threads but in essence you can just use a basic solenoid attached to the inside of the bootlid with a rod to pull on the boot release mechanism.
Electrical is simple enough, ground one side of the solenoid and power the other wire through a remote switch that you locate anywhere you want in the car.. feed this switch from a permanently live feed if you want to be able to release it without the need for the key in the ignition ( simply pick the live up from the feed to the boot light circuit whuch is right by the boot lock to achieve that).
Or if you only want it to work when the ignition is on just take a an appropriate live feed such as from the ciggy lighter, radio, reversing light etc. Difficult to go wrong really.

As Chris says, this has been covered a number of times & all are variations on the same theme.
The door motor used on most home brew systems are off eBay etc & were surprisingly good for the money, however I suspect the quality has slipped recently.
I used these on another project, with zero failures, recent examples are nothing like as good, I am now experimenting with radio control type servos. These are less easy to use, however there are inexpensive test boxes which can easily be modified to work the motor.
Unless you have a bit of a grasp of this type of stuff, stick to the original ideas but try & find an old stock unit. Maplin used to sell a reliable unit, you might find a seller with some of these left, although it is a little unlikely now.

Wiring is simple it`s just live and neutral in and the same out via a relay , wiring insuctions are with the unit . (included with the kit)
I dont have electric mirrors so I also fitted an isolator switch in its place .
I took the live off the boot light as it`s perminent live.
I changed the spring attachment to make it look a bit better than just going into a hole and put a rivnut in the hole and a s/s lifing eye .
I  tided it all up and mounted it all on a  bit if wood and mounted it on the carpet in the boot lol
Fom some reason it wont let me attach a photo of the parts on here so I`ll see if  i can add it seperate
