Recommended Tyres for my MGF

Hi,
I'm new here, but, I would like some recommendations for tyres on my MGF.
I have a 2000 'V' Reg MGF, and the front and rear tyre spec is 185/55 R15 82V and 205/50 R15 86V respectively.

I will be really grateful if you folks can recommend some tyre options, that are suited for the MGF.

As for tyres, alot of people use the Toyo Proxy's or the Goodyear Eagle GSD2 I think.... Someone like David will be along and tell you more...

TYRES

ToyosT1 Rs are highly regarded. My personal preference is for Nexen 2000 for 15" and Nexen 6000 for 16" wheels.

I have used Falken 452's 16" on Meg for the last 5 years and love them to bits. Good grip and look nice. Wear well too - in 5 years I have had to replace only the rears!

Those recommendations or otherwise were gathered from actual mgf/Tf users and Continentals and the Pirelli 6000s were slagged off by several people.

Sometimes, though people have /tracking issues and blame the tyres.
I'd be interested to hear your views on the Pirelli 6000s, it may be that the tyres were not to blame in the mentioned reports. They were recorded as 'Ditchfinders'!

Well, now that you mention, I have noticed a few times that when I take a round about aggressively, I have lost grip completely at the front ..
But, I just assumed that this was normal in a light car..
Secondly, it's generally my better half doing most of the driving..

And the Car had been quite uncontrollable in the snow we had end of 2010, but, again I assumed that the car is at fault, as it's too light & small.. Sorry, am not an expert on cars

If the F is setup correctly with good tyres, there's not much that will grip better!
The only problem with front end is lift at speed, which is solved with a front splitter.
If you're getting understeer on roundabouts, something's not right. If anything it's oversteer you have to be careful about.

Hmmm.. interesting.. I'm taking it tomorrow to the tyre shop to check how many of the tyres will need replacing..
And if required I'll replace the tyres in pairs..
And also get the tracking done ..

A brisk driving then should explain a few things ..

Seem to remember reading somewhere that the problem with the Pirellis was lack of wall reinforcement.

Certainly shouldn't be having front end problems at low speed. Have used mine throughout the winter, as David said it's the rear that can step out - recommend the Falkens myself although mine are on 17" rims, don't know if that's a factor.

For good all round use and a mid range price I go for Federal on mine, but then again I'm on 215/35/18's

a real bone shaker ride, but have driven 30 miles with a flat an didn't even notice, so can be handy...lol

The MGF is very tyre sensitive and were originally designed to run on Goodyear's ONLY, before rushing off to the tyre shop and getting new tyres that may be totally unsuitable and make the handling worse. Please give us some more information so you can be given good advice. What tyres are on there at the moment?? i notice that Tigger mentions Pirelli :shrug: :evil: they are to be avoided at all costs!!!!!! mixing different makes of tyre can make the handling a nightmare and running at the incorrect pressures makes a weird feeling. You know the sizes are different front and rear and all four wheels have to be tracked at the same time (yes the rears have to be adjusted too. Is the ride height correct ? (the suspension pumped up) there are compliance washers on the rear suspension links which wear and allow the rear wheels to self steer. is the EPAS ok or does it pull to the left when starting the engine??
As David has said the correct tyres and suspension set up will give you superb handling and the car will "stick like glue"
Please give us loads of information and we will advise you correctly. :whistle:
