I too, dont have any feedback on TIGAR TYRES, looked them up and they are an Europe manufactured BUDGET tyre, Michelin have a major shareholding in the company.

Knowing how sensitive the Fs & TFs are to the correct tyres, i would not fit them to my MGF unless someone can say they are good!!!

Toyo T-1Rs are reported to be good, Avon ZV5 are reported to be good and as David said before the Uniroyal Rainsport also. Hope this helps

I know this is probably covered else where, but Im lost on tyres atm....if i have 215/45/17 that means the tyre width is 215(side to side) 45 is height of the tyre (rim to surface) and 17 is the size. So if I had a 215/35/17 they would be lower profile than the 45s? Is that right or am I all messed up?

Yeah you got it right Ned

Although there is more to it, if you drop to 35 profile on your 17's your speedo will be out, normal rule of thumb is to drop the profile size with the wheel size going up so

15" wheels have 55 profile
16" wheels have 50 profile
17" wheels have 45 profile

there is a bit of give an take to be honest by about 5 on the profile

All your trying to do is when you put bigger wheels or smaller wheels on, Keep the overal size the same
This then keeps the speedo geared right so it gives a near enough true reading

PS The lower the profile the harder the ride as well, I know I have 35's on my 18's and its a REALLY hard drive, if a mouse farts in front of the car its like going over a speed bump

If you opt for 40 profile you will alter the gearing and the speedo will be out! :S

The information that Jon gave you is absolutely correct as you increase the diameter of the rim from 15" to 16" to 17" to 18" the tyre profile is reduced to mantain the same overall diameter of the wheel and tyre that the car was originally designed to use ~ this is called the Rolling Ratio, which is the distance covered by one revolution of the wheel. All tyre manufacturers will give you the rolling ratio for their tyres.
another factor to consider is the width of tyre that you propose to use on your 17" wheels, what is the rim width ??

Also consider, as Jon has said the lower profiles give a harder ride (watch out for farting mice!!!!!!)

There are lots of web pages that allow you to compare the standard size tyre with any combination you can think of. Here's one, here

it tells you how it will affect your speedo, but bear in mind that with the standard setup the speedo reads 5-10% high.

The wall figure, ie 205/50/15. the 50 is a %. So the wall height is 50% of the tread width.

If you compare the 205/50/15 to the 215/40/16 you'll see that the 16" tyre is actually smaller overall than the 15"!:omg:

Thanks for all the info guys. Bryan, the width is 7j (I think thats what you wanted to know). Anyway I think I know what I want to get, but have one more question, what speed rating is required.

Also anyone know a good place to buy the toyos?

Higher speed rated tyres tend to have a stronger construction (stiffer side wall) so I would recommend V or above. (VWYZ).
Load rating is important, minimum 82 front 86 rear.

ie 205/50/15 86V is an good example.

Finally, got the NEXEN 2000s all round on my car, and got the suspension pumped up a bit.
And straight away, the car feels better...
