What car did you get out of to get your MGF/TF? Plus if you were thinking of changing it for something else what would you buy, this should not be a money no object wish list but your realistic choice.

To get the ball rolling here was my previous vehicle

ever so slightly different view point

The gorgeous and now very affordable (as long as you don't do high miles) Jaguar XK8 convertible.
Still soft top, British heritage, beautiful lines, cheap to buy and insure as a second car or on specialist insurance policy. Got a quote sub £200.

This what next car could be one of many possibles but be decisive and choose one.
So in the words of Delia Smith, ‘Come on, let’s be ’avin’ you’ –

Back in the spring I sold my 1973 MGBGT, which I had owned for over 12 years, to fund the purchase of my MGF. It took a bit of convincing for my wife to agree to the sale of the BGT (she really liked the GT).

And there was no way I can put three cars into a two car garage (there's a 70 Spitfire undergoing restoration, which is hidden at the back of the garage).

I had a BMW E30 325ise. Lovely old car....properly engineered car made by Germans. The last of the real BMWS. Spent quite a lot of money getting it the way I wanted. Just became tooooo juicy as 24mpg can make just going back and forth to work expensive. Put your foot down and 18-20mpg is a bonus. She had full M-TEC leather interior, 17" alpina rims with stretched tyres. M-TEC 1 steering wheel and many other morsels. Engine was bulk standard but standard is 170 bhp. A very quick car for a heavy lump of Germany's finest steel. She has sadly been sitting on the drive for the last few months and will be getting "fragged" at the end of the month. Some of the money I recoup will go towards a nice shiny hardtop.

In the future if I had the money and could find a minter would be an E30M3. Now that's a proper car. End of !

Having said that I am very happy with my light weight 2 seater ragtop.

I got rid of this

If I had to get another non MG it would be an Alfa Spider.

However, I do think the DB9 convertable looks like the big, muscle bound, expensive version of the TF, even down to the lights. So....who knows. ;)

I was very brave and chopped a Citreon VTR in for my MG TF (plus £1800cash). The VTR was a shed so it was a good deal. As I said, I was very brave, I didn't tell my wife until I arrived home in it. Luckely it was a beautiful sunny day and I was able to demonstrate the benefits of soft top driving in the lanes of North Wales.

My wife has a 308 petrol, so if I can persuade her to chop that in against some mid range Merc with a rag top, I should do well on the Apprentice.

I still have my Nissan 200sx turbo, but Sheila drove one of these before the MGF.

Slightly off-track, but in around 1988 I traded in my lovely white 1973 Lotus Elan Plus 2S 130/5 (long winded name!) for a Skoda Estelle!!! Very embarrassing, but I needed to get rid of it and that was the best deal I could get quickly! Had the Skoda for about 6 months. I suppose it was similar to the MGF in that it was rear engine! And overheated...

After that came a nice white Triumph Spitfire which I had when I met my wife. We sold that soon after we married and moved to the North of Scotland, but I've always wanted another sports car - preferably 2-seater and open top. So I was happy to buy the MGF this year. I've always wanted another Lotus, I guess I have always been a fan since the white Esprit in James Bond in the 70's when I was a kid, but now I have the MGF I'm not sure I want to swap it! I like the look and its nippy enough. Plus no less reliable than the cars mentioned above! Aim is to keep it long term and improve it as time and money allow... :P

Thanks everyone, what car did you get out of to get your MGF/TF? Plus if you were thinking of changing it for something else what would you buy, this should not be a money no object wish list but a realistic choice.

I'd like to see what interesting, affordable, cars there are out there and find out what your point of reference was before getting behind the wheel of the MGF/TF

That is a very very clever answer, :yesnod: You do know that MGB stands for Money Grabbing B*****d and MGF is Money Grabbing F****r :omg: have not found one for the TF yet!!!! :bust:
