Someone had to say it but I should deduct twenty five points QI style for general ignorance answer.

Apart from a few experimental ones the production were never mader of rubber.

Extra kudos if you can say who eventually manufactured the bumpers

The rubber bumpers were actually made of steel reinforced polyurethane plastic.

Still researching manufacturer

Polyurathane was indeed the answer to the 'rubber' bumper question.

Another slice of pie for alanrt54. The manufacturer was just a bit of fun.

If you'd like to post a question I'll tell you the manufacturer later if you don't find them

Rubber-Bumper MGB: A Sensible Choice

April 5, 2009

The rubber-bumper MGB has been given a bum rap for too long. Our opinion? They make excellent, practical drivers.

When the rubber-bumper MGB was introduced in September 1974, many considered it to be an unworthy addition to the British sports car stable. The classic chrome accents were gone, the handling was affected by the elevated ride height and the performance was diminished.

But take notice: These cars make excellent daily drivers. Plus, they can be easily modified for enhanced performance and handling. They can even be converted back to classic chrome-bumper appearance. These attributes make these newer MGBs versatile and a good value, quite worthy of ownership today.

Kelvin Dodd, technical expert with Moss Motors, owns two rubber-bumper MGBs (’78 and ’80), and says they have advantages often overlooked. “The rubber bumpers offer great protection in parking lots and when you get hit, making it a safer daily driver,” he says..

I'm guessing that Dunlop would've made the bumpers?

:bang: They were known as the 'rubber' bumper MGB but were produced with Polyurathane bumpers. I guess the 'Polyurathane' bumper MGB didn't have quite the same ring to it. :slapme:

Since you persist in questioning the answer I think you should not only have 25 points deducted but also have to do a forfeit :yesnod:

Suggestions on a postcard please

Dunlop indeed, yes Chris very funny :P

As we seam to stuck on the manufacturer I'll let you know it was Marley Foam, of Lenham, Kent which produced the Polyurathane bumpers for the MGB.

alanrt54 - your turn. If you're struggling to set a question let me know and I'll post one.

Ciao Alan, buona domanda, molto interessante. :yesnod:

Nice find, I'll let someone else have a go at identifying this car.

There are actually quite a few MG links.
