Me I prefer wood. My first car with real wood inside was a Mk2 Spitfire of 64 vintage which had the dials set into a real wood surround. The rest of course was very basic inside. The MGF will be my second ever sports DHC, I did have an Opel Ascona Sport 2 door for a little while a couple of decades back..
In fact I am looking to add further wood trim to my project MGF just need to work out how to.

I'm going for sparkly black / gloss black.

No I'm not talking about that fake stick on muck that's just slapped on the console fascia (and it looks slapped on too)
I'm talking about a paint process that really does look like polished timber if done properly.
The practice was done on metal dashboards of mainly American cars of the '30s and '40s
Here's some of the effects:
Maple
Burr walnut
Mahogany
Rosewood

As you can see, this can vary from restrained to spectacularly detailed to the point of being over the top!
All sorts of odd shapes can be done, shapes that would be impossible to do with real wood or that stick on muck.
Maybe this obsolete practice that these days is only found in the realms of the '30s and '40s car restorers, can be applied to some for more modern customs.

I'm tight so will give the old spraying a go first.

Now that last example is quite stunning in detail. I have been sort of thinking about making a glove box lid to go where the air bag blank is. Was thinking some Walnut veneer on ply would make it. That idea is on the back burner as the subframe arrives in the morning. have not got one thing done on the project today due to other mundane thinks like grocery shoppign and vets visits with a dog.

Bit of pimping going on
Ran out of black sparkly sherbet paint so will have to go to my favourite motor parts suppliers Harry Frauds for some more.
Looks OK so far, will need a few more coats and might rub one of the bits down but will look good when done
So if I can paint anyone can, all you need is a bit of improvisation :broon:
Will do the speedo surround next :broon: :broon:
