Here's a picture of the position of my glass panel when the roof is folded down.

And folding down.

Hi I have had another, calmer, look at the window panel when unzipped. The fabric is tight and is not allowing the window to sit flat in the parcel shelf.
It is at it's tightest where it is rivited to the curves.
This panel has large wings which are rivited around the curves using 21 rivets in all. Wheras the original is not rivited around the curves.
The wings can be seen in this link
Extra wings
I am going to cut the excess material off reducing it to the size of the old panel.
This should let it down a bit but it will never lay flat to the carpet.

You really need to free up the last folding bar (so it slides about as in my How-To) if you want the hood to act properly. Basically the rear bar is solid, and so it is trying to jam itself against the main hood, and it just 'runs out of material'...

Hi, I've got to the point now where I don't care if it folds down while zipped up and there is no gaurantee that your mod will work with my larger window.
so unzipped it will be.
thanks for the suggestion anyway. :broon:

When I had my glass window fitted it was really tight and Pete (MGFmania) advised me to wet it a few times to help it go down and loosen up the fabric a touch. That worked for me. :yesnod:

I have left the extra flaps on but have cut them alond the rivet line to release some tension.
The window has gone down a little unzipped but it is still 2 inches short of the carpet at the rear whilst touching at the front.
That will have to do as there is still a little tension round the curve but I cant cut it any further as it would end up with a gap in the corner of the window.
A bit heath robinson I know but it was the only solution.
Don't know why these wings were there in the first place.

Your hood was designed to fold, this one being so large wasn't I fear.

No I think he has said that mine was much bigger.
I think BAS got it so wrong when thay designed this, they have made the window smaller since.

It's not so much the height but funnily enough it seems to be the width at the bottom of the glass causing all the tension.

From adam's post
The only issue I can see is that the glass panel is HUGE! Even bigger than the orginal OEM glass I had... so it can't be 100% guaranteed it will fold completly flat in all honestly.

It WOULD fold IF reworked, would still be prone to smashing on the T-Bar though - last time I made a similar post on .org I received a Solicitors Letter from BAS!

At MGLive! I replaced one of this style glass BAS panel which had smashed on the way to Silverstone
