Hope everyone has sobered up .I thought I`d start  the  TF engine  and let it run for a while ,it started on the button even after a few weeks .However there is a very noisy tappet ,I`ve left the engine running for 15 minutes or so , giving it the occasional rev up ,to get the engine warm and clear it out .So another job on the list ,is to quieten the tappet down .Is it a straight forward job ,or are they hydraulic I had a few  Rover P5Bs and they had hydraulic ones and you had to change all if one was faulty .All advice is welcome ,be nice to get into the garage after Christmas .it`s such a rush round too many things you won`t eat or drink ,then its over in no time   Len

I`ve just removed the engine cover which hasnt been off for some years ,looking   at some of the rust bolts .The first thing I need to do is to get the engine warm and replace the engine oil ,its quite dirty Which is the best oil to use and should I add an additive .Len

So long as the oil meets the specifications required it shouldn't matter all that much, having said that, cheap and nasty no band supermarket oil should be avoided....you get what you pay for. So any proper brand oil that meets the specs should be fine.
As for additives, they're mostly snake oil, however if you can still get your hands on some of the oil fashioned STP, it has been known to calm noisy hydraulic lifters if they're just a bit gummed up, not worn. And it also can free up piston rings that are not expanding and contacting freely enough within their grooves due to being gummed up.

It could also be worth the use of a flushing oil if its likely the current oil has been left in there for too long. It does mean draining and changing the oil filter twice but it can make a positive difference to have a bit of a wash out

I take it ,that if flushing oil and fresh oil doesn`t cure the tappet noise then the camshafts have to be removed to get the tappets out .This makes it  a big job Len

You have nothing to lose by changing the oil and the filter. I would start there.
Let it really warm up with fresh oil and it just may clear itself. Once warm give it a few blips on the throttle and oil pressure just might do it.
Good luck you are almost there with that car!

Len, I've checked the download file and successfully downloaded it to my tablet, so it looks OK.  You do need a pdf reader app to access it.
