OK. Thanks for the guidance, process of elimination indicates the ECM isn't activating the fan which otherwise does run.
I think I heard somewhere that there are exchange services offered by some firms - is this correct and if so, where to go? Anywhere here in Oz (Cobber?)
It's a Mk1 TF with square fob, Lucas.

My 2002 TF 135 started overheating while driving in stop-start city traffic yesterday, a warm 27deg here in Adelaide. This hasn't been an issue previously.
Temp gauge got to just above the ¾ mark but returned to normal range once we were in clear air and moving. Temp also went high again climbing windy hills roads but dropped quickly on more level terrain.
No coolant loss and inspection of the dip stick and filler cap shows nice clear oil, no mayo.
I'm suspecting the radiator cooling fan may not be working? Checked the fuse and all OK there. The engine bay fan ran for a while after stopping with engine off.
Is there a simple way of checking if the radiator fan is functioning correctly? Help please.
Possibly just coincidental, but a couple of weeks ago the expansion tank cap 'blew' with the associated spectacle of heaps of steam and about 1 litre of coolant loss. A new (genuine) cap appears to have solved that issue.

Despite lots of searching around, it seems it's impossible to find a wind stop, the open weave mesh type, either new or used here in Oz, needed for an '02 TF.
MGF&TF Bitz appear to have them sometimes but not at the moment.
So, does anyone have experience with a solid clear perspex type? I vaguely recall seeing a pic or two with these fitted to an F/TF, so if they would work as well as the fabric style, I'll attempt to fabricate one - fixing brackets may be a challenge!

Just looked at the Rimmer's catalogue diagrams and the non-air setup doesn't have the pulley.
Apologies if I caused you concern.

Mine is a 2002 TF and definitely has a tensioner pulley associated with the alternator (ancillary) belt.
It has air con & don't know if that makes a difference. 18.png

Just replaced my auxiliary belt and found the tensioner pulley bearings were shot. The pulley rattled around something awful!
Might be worth checking that too - the belt will not run true if the pulley isn't running straight.

Wow, thanks Cobber. If you find they are superfluous to your needs I'd be happy to make you an offer.
I have two sons, both in St Kilda who could potentially collect from you and bring to me in Adelaide.
