Break it open by jamming in a suitable screwdriver and using a mole on the shaft to break the lock.  Then replace the lock barrel with a new one.  Alternatively - look on UTube - loads of ALLEGED  methods there.

I have removed the bracket with lock on from the rack. There are no numbers on the barrel but on the bracket itself it has the following stamped in.
S1
0397
Then at the bottom where it hooks under bootlid it says
E20
Thanks

Does anyone within a boot rack actually use it regularly for stowage or are they mostly just shiny for show

I brought a new soft top back from ‘ Bitz, it then went back on top of the wardrobe, from whence it came the day before. That must have been five years ago.
If you are a completist you have to have one as well as the hard top, even though neither sees regular use & neither is an imperative.

When I need extra boot space, I strap the spare to the rack ans use the now vacated space under the bonnet.
I have also used the rack to hold a hay bale for feeding out

Yes, I use mine for the wheelchair my wife needs.  I have managed to get the wheelchair in that picture inside the boot, having removed both main wheels.  However, we now have a lightweight chair which fits more easily. I use two adjustable flat straps, fed though the engine vents, over the wheelchair, and back inside the boot to ensure that the whole lot does not part from the car.

The larger wheelchair main wheels can be removed & replaced quickly without using tools.  The removed 20" diameter wheel (just) fits into the frunk, nested up against the spare (MGTF) wheel.  If anyone wants details of the chair or methods of holding it, PM me.

Just got "upload failed" when trying to insert the picture???
Rear view with ANYTHING on the bootlid is somewhat limited

Thats a really practical use. I didnt realise the boot rack could carry something as substantial as a wheelchair frameir, significantly extending the car's usefulness.

I could be wrong but I seem to recall that I read somewhere that up to 20 kg can be carried.
Mind you with that much extra weight aft you'd want to be careful at speed as it won't make the front aerodynamic lift any better!

Yes Cobber, you are correct (as usual!).  I always load-up as much weight as possible in the Frunk when carrying the wheelchair on top of the boot, and put as little as possible in the boot,  It all helps to keep the weight distribution not too far from what Rover expected and (hopefully) designed-for.
