Hi from Devon
New member here, so wanted to introduce myself.
We've recently aquiired my mother-in-law's 2003 MG TF Sunstorm (Nightfire Red).
She owned the car from new, it's always been garaged, and has only covered around 23k miles, but had not been started since 2023 (her partner confiscated the keys when she developed dementia)
Over recent weeks, i've removed the SCU to have new fobs coded, changed the oil and filters, drained the old fuel and replaced with fresh, installed a new fuel filter, and freed up the sticky rear caliper, and last week she sailed through an MOT (advisories on slight damage to n/s/f tyre, and a o/s/r brake pads discoloured due to heat, both of which I was already aware of).
I stilll have plenty more to do, including replacing the timing and aux belts (I did examine these *very* carefully before even attempting to start the car!), waterpump and coolant obviously, replacing all four tyres, plus there is a slight misfire at idle that I need to investigate, but it will be much easier to make progress now the car is no longer garaged five hours drive away from where I live!

You have come to the right place if you are looking to expand your knowledge in all things TF.
Looks like you know what you are doing and getting Mums car driving again will keep the memories alive.
Good luck with the car!
Lot's of How To's on here if you get stuck.
I would recommend a low coolant alarm for the car, inexpensive and worth its weight in water!!

If you are not intimately associated with the world of MG and wish to keep the car you might consider becoming a member of one of the MGOC local clubs .
Although many of the members will own a MGB (and be intimately familiar with the workings of those cars) the numbers of TFs and Fs is growing in my limited experience.
They are by comparison more complex vehicles when compared to the MGB and “hands-on” maintenance is often delegated etc but the range of social activities each club provides or arranges might be of interest.
Good Luck

I am lucky enough to be on a cruise ATM and away from the English (wet) weather. I live in East Devon (Near Honiton) and would be glad to give eyes-on advice to another TF owner if you need any help. There are some local garages I would nowadays avoid, as a result of personal, recent experience, so that might be helpful, too. P.M. if you wish to make contact. Look at my previous posts if you want to assess the "quality" of my knowledge!
Posts by MGB281 are also well worth a look, he is local(ish) in the Taunton/Wellington area IIRC.

Thank you, that's really kind of you. I'm in Exeter, so not too far away. I'll drop you a PMHi from the Pacific Ocean.
