Is the red one in bluestreaks post 'the beast' if so it was fitted with a Rolls Royce merlin engine. Long legal case that RR won, he had to lose the RR grille.

Yes when I pulled the picture from the internet it was labelled the beast...i remember a news story some years ago when the guy mounted the rolls merlin in his car...anybody got any pictures of inside the engine bay.I believe the merlin engines were the spitfire aeroplane engine...now that car appears less ghastly and more interesting by the minute..and the guy must be a total crackpot to even think of the idea

u

I seem to remember from years gone by (about 45!) another car with a 24 litre Merlin engine from a Spitfire in it. Can't remember the donor vehicle, may have been a Capri or similar but it used to go like the clappers and had maximum revs of about 2500rpm.

The things people do :-?

Robin ;)

I've been trying to track down info on a V12 MGBGT, I remember it being featured about 20 years ago in a magazine, entitled 'Wolf in Sheeps Clothing'

ah ah but the red one is the beast.........if you look at the next set of images you will see that they are the same car...it must of been modified from the ghastly red one to the biege one....check out the reg numbers there both the same

above 6 wheel jameson chassis.......and below racing a merlin engined car by jameson

the engine is the same installed in spitfire and lancaster aeroplanes from world war 2....it was originally fitted to a boulton-paul-trainer
In 1960 paul jameson put a merlin engine in to a chassis he built himself. He did not get around to building a body and sold the car to epsom auto transmission specialist john dodd who fitted a fibreglass body based on a ford capri and named it the beast.
some say the engine was a rover built rolls royce meteor which was a detuned merlin without the superchargers.and steel components replacing alloy ones.
originally it had the rolls royce grille but rolls royceput a stop to that.
The beast was once in the guiness book of records for being the most powerful roadcar.
no supercharger fitted deliverd850hp-630kw....car used a general motors th400 auto transmission......engine capacity 27,000cc

and if a 2 wheel drive estate car with a powerful merlin engine isnt your scene.....try a merlin powerd 4x4 in the shape of a landrover

or for a bit more bhp.....bolt your merlin engine to a trolley

more merlin engine images

ithose aeroplane engines are some piece of work arnt they!......
