There is a fairly comprehensive test in this months MGOC magazine, conducted by ex MG engineering staff and Roger Parker.
When it is available online I will try get it linked on here.
It centres though on 16" wheels and a 135 TF is used as the test car.
In summary the Nankang AS2+ tyres are suggested as a suitable replacement and are currently available from MGOC, other suppliers are no doubt available.
But I will try get the whole article online, unless someone out there can do it quicker ?

Just had a quick look on Tyrereviews UK and the reviews are not good.
Maybe the compound has been improved?
Still interested in the review as tyres are getting rarer and I do believe Parker will be honest about them.

Interesting,
I have recently had new tyres fitted on the TF, and it's been a bit of a nightmare tbh.
I went into our local branch of a nationwide tyre company and was told that they could get Nankang tyres next day, but I wanted Toyo or Falken..so I was advised to look on there website and see what was available. Only Toyo or Falken were available on the website, so I ordered Falken and booked in.
Day before the appointment, I got an email saying that the Falkens were unavailable, even though I had already paid for them. I asked about Toyos..nope not available either. 😒
You can probably guess what I got.
I haven't tried them in the wet, but in dry weather, they are pretty good.

This is what I found.
How that compares I dont know, but for your average plodder like me, they will probably do, but the expected mileage is suspect.

I’ll wait for the mg to drop through the mail box to red it at ease.
But if Andy Kitson (VHS and an ex MG/Rover MGTF design team) and Roger Parker were involved then I’d have confidence in the result.

The reviews on Tyrereviewsuk are really poor.
Far, far lower than the previous Toyo and Falkens so to me it looks like grabbing at straws and with the people running the tests that surprises me.
Time will tell.

I'm on 15 inch wheels so it is easier for me.
I run 195x50x15 on the front and 205x50x15 on the rear.
Running 195 on the rear would not bother me as you can stil get really good tyres in that size.
Rob Bell ran 195x15 all round on his hillclimb car.
You wont notice 10mm less at the rear with good tyres.
I run Falken Zei 310's but the latest Zei 320 has even better reviews and is available in 195_50_15.
If I need tyres that will be my route.
On Ebay just now 4 new 195_50_15 Toyo TR1's can be had for £200. That's a great deal.
16 inchers may need to compromise on size too.
Personally I would rather have great tyres 10mm narrower than mediocre tyres of the right size..but that's just me.

I was not aware that Toyos have gone out of production. Too bad, it is a great tire for these cars.

I am happy to hear that there is at least an alternative to choose from that is recommended by marque experts.

I changed my tires a few years back (to Toyos) so it will be some time before I need to change them again. This information will be useful in the future.

Good Tyres make a big difference in how our cars handle.
I have always been a fan of the Toyos

Thing is it won't matter what tyres you fit as it's probably going to handle like a bag of spanners unless you had the tracking done properly.
Most of the tyre fitting places we go to use  what the tracking machine says, but what you actually need is the factory recommended settings.
BIG Difference.

I agree about 4 wheel alignment.
I got mine done with the figures from this forum and insisted they use them.
I increased rear camber to 1.5 deg negative. My TF has factory afdustable tie rods so it was easy.
The rear end sticks to the road like a limpet.
I think it is what the Cup cars used.

Clearly a number of contributors on these pages have a great deal more experience than me of high speed road use where one “tests” the performance of tyres close to or at the limit.
So I’m potentially at a point where I restore 15” wheels, buy replacement 15” wheels or go the full distance and fit 16” wheels.
My limited experience with 16” wheels suggests that the ride is “firm”.
Assuming I get the right Toyos or the latest suggested Nankang alternative would I be right in thinking that the 15” wheel sizes will give a slightly more supple ride?
Whilst not wishing to dawdle I’m not seeking to use the car in question (TF135) on the track.
Any thoughts please?
