Would you trust your equipment to a provider who advertises their services on a lamppost? I’m unsure whether car electronics can contract chlamydia from such contacts.
My dog is very good at spotting lampposts, if it were not for him & the short wait incurred during the pause, (!), I would be totally unaware of the myriad of opportunities available for the casual shopper.
I will look out for the clocking service perhaps the advertiser might make the offer a little more enticing, a diagram maybe or a little colour. Normally I would avert my gaze & practice my whistling during these intermissions but an interesting illustration showing circuit boards & colourful components might draw my attention & prompt business.

Chlamydia would be the least of your concerns I would imagine a high likelihood of an infection of pizzle rot for you, your  poor bloody dog and your automotive electronics!

What puzzles me is that if it is so difficult to do how come it has become not uncommon to see that service advertised on lamp posts etc.
Not all cars are made in same way. Have you seen anybody advertising clock chnage for MGTF specificaly?

No I’m not seeking to find the best services advertised on a lamp post. I expect it attracts the sort of person that is setting out to defraud someone somewhere.
The cost of insurance is to some extent based on limited mileage.
I don’t have lease hire etc but I think trade in value as with any part exchange will be affected by high mileage.
If the government gets its self together and does something about the loss of revenue as people switch to electric cars then the logical conclusion would be to charge by mileage recorded at the annual MOT.
If any one of the above is accurate then there is a market for resetting “the clock” whether that be dealer achieved or lamp post back street enterprise.
No I have not seen the service advertised specifically for MGTFs , I’m simply asking if anyone knows if it can be done and if so how or by who.

Thus far I get the impression that it is not possible.

If all you worried about is the difference between the indicted mileage in the car and the official record,  there must be a correct process to allow for the scenario of replacement of a broken speedo , you probably have to sign a statutory declaration or some such, this won't be the first time someones had to do this, check what the process is with the relevant authority.
Maybe you can locate a second hand unit with close to the mileage you need?

From another source (well informed) the position is as follows.
The recorded mileage is as presented at MOT. The only problem might be that the tester might be tester might have a “dizzy fit” thinking did they miss something last time.
The other issue when you come to sell it the HPI checks will throw a wobbler.

It is a relatively high mileage car (it is not immediately near me but it is around 90000 miles.

So here is a thought.
Referring to the WSM it seems to suggest that the front Perspex cover of the instrument cluster can be unclipped (Ho Ho ho etc)
If that is practical then that is a potential practical solution, I.e. buy a replacement panel and swap the covers.
Anyone ever done that ?

Edit: there’s no apparent mechanism to record a change of odometer etc

The present item has a crack about about 45mm long in bottom RH corner of the Perspex and the lugs that locate in the binnacle bottom section are probably broken when attempting a repair to the “rattle of death” around the binnacle..

The f cluster & tf cluster are a different size. My original had a crack in the corner which I felt the urge to replace, I also wanted the later warning light decals, which included, amongst other oddities, the boot open warning.
I duly bought a tf cluster & found it to be a slightly different radius & the odometer reset button was in a different place.
The warning lights were a great success. I still have the crack.
My car has covered over 126,000 miles & I don’t feel troubled by this, on the contrary, it’s a badge that I am happy to have emblazoned on my sleeve.

I have been out and about today collecting MGB gearboxes and was waiting at some traffic lights in Reading when a “Remap Master” van came alongside. I have had a few cars remapped over the years so this van caught my attention and I got the phone out to take a photo which I will attach. Amongst the many services is “mileage correction”
Their phone number is 07935553666, I have no connection to them I was just reading the sign writing.
