I think the countersunks were to give clearance between them and the hub.
Once the new carrier is fitted you cannot remove the screws as they are slightly under the hub securing points.

cmon david you've got to spill the beans now mate....i was the only one driving a way with a worlking one but only through an hour or so of cable ties etc to bodge it into working
the reason why it didnt work has been explained but NEED to know the right way...ive used said ties on the actual metal clasp that holds the wire but it would prob come off after a few uses so............
