This is what I remember when I was struggling to get the old discs off, and yet if you look at your picture of the two discs side by side (above) it's obvious that the old one has a bigger centre hole than the new one. Strangely enough, I put the centres of the old and new dic together and there wasn't much in it.
You can just see the new disc below the old.
