Always nitro cellulose and an infra red lamp to fade them to the shade I want sometimes.
You can age and crack nitro but not the poly stuff.
Here's one I baked earlier..

Posted 1 year 3 weeks ago #216282It won’t be a 1969 LP! but is it Gibson, an Epiphone or a Chibson?

If you look closer you will see the pickups are actually the right way round but the light obscures the bridge polepieces.
It is a hand made replica of a 59 LP. All the right woods and specs. I have had it 14 years and although I have many guitars that one is Home. Just plays, feels and sounds like the real deal.
Huge Peter Green fan. This is not wired out of phase though.
Loved Peter's playing in early Fleetwood Mac.
I remember watching them debut Albatross on the Justin Dee show on the BBC and being mesmerised with the beauty of it.
I have played it in bands for over 40 years and I can play it well, both parts at same time..But..I can count the times on one hand where I actually captured the feel of Peter.
Good to hear you play too AP.

Posted 1 year 3 weeks ago #216287To get all the permutations of a twin coil on a single rotary switch was a challenge ; mind you I couldn’t remember how I did it at this stage in the game.
My Guinea pig pickup wasn’t expensive & it sounded better than a silly money Seymour Duncan.
I haven’t visited this area of my brain for some while, thanks for the prompt, I shall spend a bit more time in here & see what else I find.

"get off big nose" and other such charming shouts. Didn't take long for him to win them around.

Maple?
I used to own a LP standard many years ago but found out it was not “my guitar”, so I sold it. I regret it now, LPs are not the same anymore.
Very much like cars 😂

Posted 1 year 3 weeks ago #216301It was hacked about unmercifully until it was more pegboard than guitar. I returned it to playable state & my son has it; he’s not all that fond of it,
Clapton had his “Fool” mine was foolish & fractured.
I had more sense with my AC30 & Marshall 1969 (?). My lad has those also.

Yes it's maple and it's the 4th time I have refinished it! I wanted it a certain burst and finally got there but each time you do it there is always the chance you ruin it! So this is it.
I played a Strat in the band for most numbers but always played the LP for the last set of heavier numbers.
When I left the band I graduated to the LP and had a couple made.
This one has it all.
I'm not the greatest player but I love it and music in general.
My passion is cars and guitars equally 😉

I had an American Standard Strat I bought in NYC some 30 years ago, beautiful guitar, but sold it as well, and also regret it.
I mostly play rhythm or acoustic guitar, so it wasn’t my piece of cake, either.
I think Strats are the ultimate design, they are perfect in that sense. So terribly comfortable to play, so sleek

Painting and finishing a car or guitar is the same principle..preparation, preparation and more preparation.
If you see a blemish in primer on a wing then no amount of colour or lacquer will cover it.
It's all about not rushing to see how good it looks!
Enjoy your music!
