Correct. I couldn't find any pictures of Gilchrist cars; only this little snippet:

Sam Gilchrist who had worked for commercial builders Caldeon before setting up on his own, with finance from his colliery-owning brother. His car was a conventional tourer powered by an ohv version of the 1550cc Hotchikiss engine which was also bought by William Morris. Various body styles were made by Sim & Wilson of Cathcart, Glasgow, mostly 4-seater tourers. About 20 cars had been made when Gilchrist’s brother withdrew his aid as the money was needed to support his strike-hit colliery. The car would probably have succembed in the face of competition from Morris anyway.

Nowadays we expect royalty to drive Rolls Royces and Bentleys. In the VERY early MG days, what royalty bought an MG?

Just a reminder of the current question;

I don't know that he bought an MG, but Prince Bira raced a Magnette K3 in 1935.

The MG in question was a 14/28 Tourer, purchased in 1926 by the 19 year old, Alfonso Pío Cristino Eduardo Francisco Guillermo Carlos Enrique Eugenio Fernando Antonio Venancio Borbón y Battenberg, who was better known as Alfonso, Prince of Asturias.

Alfonso, Prince of Asturias, was the eldest child of the then-reigning king Alfonso XIII of Spain and his wife Princess Victoria Eugenie of Battenberg. He was a matrilineal great-grandson of Queen Victoria.

The MG was appropriately supplied in Royal Purple with a gold band along the waistline.

The car could have had a bullnose or the flat radiator as shown above.

A car accident (I do not now the car but hope it wasn't the MG) led to his untimely death in 1938, at the age of 31. He crashed into a telephone booth and appeared to have only minor injuries but his haemophilia led to fatal internal bleeding.

Assuming this is the Royal and car Tsleight was after, my question is simply this

Name and date the above car

Is it a WA Paul? Both were very similar, one superseeded the other. Not quite sure if tickford had a hand in the drop head or not. There were several different body options.

Of course I am prbably completely wrong !!!!

Pendle lass - your clues must have been too obvious?

Right, well here goes, an answer to 'When was it taken, Where was it taken, who was there including passengers and what run was it?' ;

When - 1st August 2009
Where - A field, oh where is the field - near Harrogate, North Yorkshire
Who - Iain160Trophy, Mindy, Pendle lass, Preeti, Darren, Cjj + mud
What run was it - Harrogate run

Not sure of all the details and there were probably others on the run but hopefully that's near enough for you Tracy.

A new question just to get the ball rolling again;

Simple - Name the car, what is different about it? Few details would be nice. Happy hunting ;)

I suppose one correct answer the date will have to be enough :lol:
