why the lotus 11 previously then?
for reference, above was the lotus 340r development mule, chassis 001...
had the lovely VHPD k-series 190bhp engine, and is now run in hill climbs by a privateer...
No, I mean the red car is not a Lotus according to my source it's an MG. Sorry for the confusing post Ozzy.

really??
looks like a massive copy of a Lotus XI then!!! my uncle Norman used to have an MG in the 1950s that he raced, before he went on to develop the lister jaguar, and had quite a few 50's MGs the he hill climbed too...
infact:
"A 1933/49 MG J1/4 "Hillwood" Special. Originally with four seater tourer body, purchased in 1949 by Mr Norman Hillwood of Edgeware, Middlesex and rebuilt to J4 (746cc) specification but without supercharger. Rebodied with streamlined two seater body and ENV close ratio gearbox, used in competition until accquired by present owner inAprl 1956."
just found that on google... he still has all his photos from the build of that car, and a few coopers/lister jaguars...
oh and found another one of his cars too:

Blimey I leave you alone for a couple of hours and :boxing: :boxing:
This is the MG Quiz - clue in the name it's all about MG's.
Ozzy the car pictured by David is the Regah MG Special. Just like the Kokopelli MGB 1800 (previously featured in the MG Quiz as pointed out by Mark), this a sports kit car based on the Lotus Eleven shape with the donor car being the MGB. It is also 'like' a Lotus 11 but is not a Lotus 11. I'm absolutely sure the Lotus fans would not call either of them a Lotus 11
So I think you may jumped the gun little, but then posted what I thought was a very, very interesting question (which unfortunately you have now answered :bang: ),
As I understand it we have no winner of David's question and no current question?
Will get someone to post a new question shortly and hopefully normal service will be resumed back in a bit

elise production started late 1994/early 1995, first cars delivered end of 1995/begining 1996... (R reg...) first MGFs were earlier than that... 1995 i believe?
hardly anything in it though...
MGF was 1100kgs, whilst the S1 elise was 795kgs, with an extruded aluminium bonded tub, which was about 6,000,000 times stilffer than the blamonge used by MG...
they are both massively fun british sports cars that rattle and leak though
