The MGB-GT is the prettiest shooting brake ever made. But its engineering is more than 50 years old. And it wasn’t cutting edge to begin with. Now Frontline Developments in the UK are giving the MGB GT the engineering it always deserved: A 215-horsepower Miata mill, six-speed gearbox, limited-slip diff and advanced suspension components. Oh, and did I mention all those goodies are attached to a brand-new reproduction body?
Frontline Developments have been making advanced suspension bits and performance parts for British sports cars since 1992. After restoring and driving dozens of the things, they decided to build a brand-new car with the latest tech.
Frontline Developments are proud to announce a strictly limited production of 50 very special vehicles to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the MGB.
Being built in conjunction with British Motor Heritage, the LE50 (Limited Edition 50) has been created to deliver the charm, style and elegance of 1962, but to 2012 standards. This means not only an incredibly high level of production engineering, but also truly staggering performance, comfort, build-quality and reliability.
So, there you have it – the LE50 is a new car. A little shooting brake capable of hitting 60 in just 5 seconds and reaching a terminal velocity of 160 miles per hour. To make sure it doesn’t kill its drivers, the LE50 is equipped with Frontline’s trick front wishbones, telescopic dampers (shocks) and a five-link rear suspension. It also has four-piston calipers up front to bring the car to a halt. Inside it’s all Alcantara, Wilton carpets and Connoly leather. Retail price for the car? About $80,000.
To lear more about the LE50, check out their site. You can also watch a short documentary about the LE50 over at Dep-O Magazine.

Shooting brake or shooting break is a term for a car body style that has evolved through several distinct meanings over its history.
Shooting-brake originated as an early 19th century British term for a vehicle used to carry shooting parties with their equipment and game. The term brake was initially a chassis used to break-in horses — and was subsequently used to describe a motorized vehicle. More recently used to describe Estates / Station Wagons and most recently applied to three door hatchback layouts.
Still a rather odd term to use for the MG LE 50
Back to the MG Quiz and well done MGF MARK your post and links cover all the questions asked by Tui. Look forward to your new question. :yesnod:
Once again you all came up with great questions - two of which the poster answered themselves :pinch:

Their designer, William Towns, produced DOL 341V under the instruction it must be finished within 6 days.
It was registered on 13th Feb 1980 by BL cars Ltd and then sold to Aston Martin Lagonda where it remained in storage until being sold privately in July 1984
Owing to arguments on who would own the rights to the MG name, talks lingered on for a while.
When an agreement was finally reached, Aston Martin was having problems of its own due to the recession, as were the other backers who now weren't so keen to commit. Eventually BL lost patience with the consortium and closed the factory.
Oh, I'm not sure where the work was carried out, but I'm guessing Newport Pagnell?
hers the ful story
