MG Quiz

This detects the speed via a switch within the speedometer body, particularly useful after the 1934 Road Traffic Act was passed, which reintroduced a speed limit for cars, of 30mph in built-up areas, reversing the removal of speed limits only 4 years earlier by the Road Traffic Act 1930.
Unfortunately we seem to be going back to the 1930s in Birmingham and Solihull. Over the last 10 years many roads which had always been 40 limits have been reduced to 30. Even dual carriageways.

I blame over-zealous Health and Safety which means those that should be weeded out by natural selection are now saved from themselves and so dilute the gene pool.

The ones that really annoy me though are 20mph school zones. I can understand during the day but do they have to be 24/7? How many kids are at school at 3.00am on a Sunday morning?

Only the really really naughty ones
Tasmanian schools are a 40 km/h but only during the start and end of school eg 8am to 9am and 2:30pm to 3:30pm outside of those times I assume any kids crossing the road are fair game. Urban roads are 50 Km/h unless otherwise posted. Main Roads are 60km/h and Highways are somewhere between 80 Km/h and 110Km/h depending on the road and the whims of the local government.

We have a really half-baked system where the default speed limit is 60mph. Urban can be 40 or 30 or 20 or 50. Motorways and dual carriage ways are 70mph.
This results in weird anomalies like the road through our village. There's no posted speed limit so it's 60mph, despite the fact that it's a single track road with passing places with blind summits and blind bends. It's suicidal to do more than 30mph on most of it.
Yet a newly built bypass around the city has a 40mph limit? A wide link road with 100yards of grass either side within the city is 30mph?

Take a look at Hari's question at the foot of the previous page then remember that Safety Fast was an MG slogan
and a car built by hand with a wooden frame today may help, as for MG have a guess

Well Done Roger, I reckon that is 3/3 the artist and first date and place of publication are correct. Alwyn Morgan is an artist familiar to any MGCC member who receives Safety Fast each month.
The square rear wheel arch indicates that the car is indeed a pre 1972 MG Midget.
I can't see Hari having any objection to you setting a new question.
