Tsleight has gone walk about and is nowhere to be seen, so here is a question to test the detective skills.
The photo above shows the dashboard of the 2 litre MG SA. What I want you to tell us is what has just happened if the green light above the steering column illuminates?

You've just armed the ejector seat?

You have just turned the indicator or trafficator on. The same light was then put on the end of the stalk when introduced in the Minor then Mini.

David the SA came out in 1936, seven years after the successful test of the modern ejector seat in 1929 at the Paris-Orly Airport, however, Cecil Kimber wanted to beat the large saloon competition from Jaguar and in the drive to save weight he dropped the ejector seat :slapme: Good try :lol:
Marmite, to the T-Bar and the MG Quiz :hugs:
Unfortunately the warning light above the steering column in this case was nothing to do with direction indicators

Rog that's very logical and could be correct, but it's not.
Clue:
You would have to be moving for the light to come on

Good guess Andy, unfortunately not the thing the warning light is telling the driver about.
Another clue;
After 1934, such a light, became useful, especially if there were no AA patrolmen around.
So a reminder of the question
The photo above shows the dashboard of the 2 litre MG SA. What I want you to tell us is what has just happened if the green light above the steering column illuminates?
A reminder of the incorrect answers received so far;
Ejector seat warning light
Turn indicator light
wiper light would have thought wipers moving was warning enough
overdrive light

The thing that looks very like an owl's eye cigar lighter above the steering column is in fact a 30 mph warning lamp. This detects the speed via a switch within the speedometer body, particularly useful after the 1934 Road Traffic Act was passed, which reintroduced a speed limit for cars, of 30mph in built-up areas, reversing the removal of speed limits only 4 years earlier by the Road Traffic Act 1930.
