The lady in the photo is Queen Mary. The original design of the MG EX150 was A 3.5 litre independent suspended car with a slab sided body referred to as "Queen Mary". I can't find a photo unfortunately. The EX150 later being applied to the 2.0 MG SA. Further info below>

From Wikipedia
"The MG SA or MG 2-litre was a sporting saloon produced by the MG Car company from 1936 to 1939. Launched as the 2 litre, it only later became known as the SA, the car had been originally planned as an advanced performance saloon to rival the likes of SS Cars (later to be known as Jaguar) and even Bentley with all independent suspension and was given the factory code of EX150 and designated the S-type. A prototype was made but with the amalgamation of MG with Morris Motors in 1935 development stopped. The Cowley drawing office picked up the project again but a much more conservative car appeared with conventional live rear and beam front axles."

From Safety Fast
"EX.150 tickles the fancy as it is down in the records as '3 1/2-litre independent car', and among the very considerable list of drawings which were made at the time appears a sub-heading 'banana-type rear suspension'. This reached a one-off proto-type stage with an enormous slab-sided body which earned the car the pseudonym 'Queen Mary', but work ceased, with the 'R' type, on the introduction of a programme of rationalisation of design with Morris Motors Ltd., a subsidiary of which the MG Car Company then became".

Well done Alan, this indeed the one off prototype EX150 from 1934 which was cancelled in 1935 when the MG Car Company was sold to Morris Motors.

I too was unable to locate a photo of the car.

Look forward to your new question, No. 198 of the current quiz :yesnod:

That looked like a question for MartinW and one he would answer the second he logged in, so I'm going to steal it after researching the answer :P

An odd ball mish mash, a BMC 1100/1300 fitted with an MGB GT tailgate

The car was called the Mystique.

The conversion, which cost £145, was produced by a BL dealer, Creech Motors in Somerset.

For more details of this and other 1100/1300 special conversions click here

New question, question No. 199 of the current quiz, is .....

When did Cecil Kimber have his first car crash (not in competition), what was he driving and who else was was injured?

I think an MG1300 Mystique would have been quite a good model for BMC to produce but I also preferred the look of the Countryman to the saloons any way. I wonder if any one ever produced their own MG Countryman, a bit tlike the Honda Civic estate I saw recently with MG ZS grille, bumper and badges.

:P Looks like I won that one :slapme:

Cecil Kimber had his first car crash (as opposed to a motor bike crash) in 1938 whilst driving the 'most jinxed' MG, the prototype SA, registration BRM 70.
In the car at the time was his future wife and her mother. Cecil suffered a broken nose, his wife to be a few cuts and bruises, however, his mother in law to be, broke two ribs and sustained a badly cut head.

The car was originally entered in the 1937 Mille Miglia. It got as far as Florence then skidded on a wet road and hit a cow and a bridge :pinch:

Back in Abingdon the car was up on its Jackall four wheel hydraulic jacks when they gave way, pinning the mechanic by his head under the car, who fortunately survived the incident without serious injury.

OK time for a new question.

Name the cars

( In reply to shoutbox question, yes they are all MG's )

I never said they were all different cars :bust:

Well spotted Ted, it was there to see if anyone said 'is it an MG SV?' As the SV also had round rear lights.

All correct Ted, no pulling the wool over your eyes, over to you.
