Fuel tank removal
The seller had left an egg cuo full in and said drive up the dual carriageway about 5 miles, you will see a garage on the otherside, go to the roundabout and back down to it.
The gauge was on less than zero and I drove like a vicar. After going around the roundabout the gauge movef upwards. I couldn't relax as I thought it was faulty but I made the garage.

the pump is totally buggered and I might yet have to replace the gauge sender/pump mounting unit.
With the interior out of the car there is evidence of a high tide mark, so either the car got flooded some time in the past (which is cause to be a statutory write off if ever an insurance claim was submitted) or it got caught out in a pisser of a rain storm with the roof down., the floor isn't rusty but I can see it has had a gut full of water @ 50mm deep at some time in the dark distant past.
One of the rubber floor bung plugs/grommets under the fuel tank is missing So I assume that was removed to bail the bilges.

There will be a procedure but what it is seems to be a mystery to those who are supposed to be in the know.
I doubt it would even burn very well now, not that I was planning a conflagration. I stinks worse than a polecats, arse, that lovely smell of fuel that's lost it's will to burn!
@ 3months is all modern fuel is good for, not like the good old days when real blokes had lead in both their pencils and fuel!
Ah well it's happy sitting safely in a nice new jerry can for now, until I can extract some answers from those who's job it is to know!

Living on the outskirts of London, finding a farm was not very easy but the farmer was happy that I emptied it over his (unlit) bonfire.

if ever I go for petrol and see the tanker there, I go somewhere else or delay it by a day, because the process of filling the tanks stirs up all the shit in it. But how many times have I filled up where the tanker left only 5 minutes earlier?
Makes you wonder how long before that petrol station’s tanks start leaking fuel into the ground.

How did it get there? Who knows!
It is known that if certain fuel additives are not added in the correct way then precipitation can occur. By that I mean you have to add “X” to the fuel storage tank first before adding the basic petrol (in the refinery blending tanks), similarly you must add “Y” to the basic fuel in the storage tank for the same reasons.
Heaven knows what happens to fuel from different suppliers (at the pumps) if it is mixed with that from another refinery, or for that matter what happens if aftermarket additives are added.
There are many “rubber” hoses involved in conveying fuel from refinery into your car. So it is not too surprising to think that some “rubbery gloop” came out but a bit alarming never the less. What happens at garage forecourt and storage tank maintenance is another obvious place for foreign matter to enter the system.
It just shows the need for a filter in the car before it blocks the injectors!
