Forgive an old f*** who is guessing a bit but is this about replacements? The sign is, now, I believe Red in background colour, the Phone is red but was white whilst the vehicle identification plate is a reproduction, not the original. See picture.

Nope, its more about where the sign is (or was) how you work a telephone and VIN numbers rather than that specific plate. Clue: it was an MG tradition.

It will be all right in the end. If it isn't all right yet, then it is not yet the end..

MG Tradition was to give the first production car off of the line the old Abingdon factory phone number 251 - hence first MGF production car was AD000251.

Near enough?

Close but not quite a cigar:
Right track, but the VIN plate shown is TF, original model. Think modern TF and check those last 3 digits. Made in Longbridge.
Clue: your worst nightmares are in this room number.....

It will be all right in the end. If it isn't all right yet, then it is not yet the end..

Doh - should have known this one :slapme: First MGTF (modern version) had serial number 101.

I say I should know because mine is a very early one 117!

Well done John. You were correct with the phone digits re Abingdon, the TF used the same idea but with the Longbridge number, ending in 101. So the first off the line VIN was lots of zeroes ending in 101.
The Chinese TF's used the number of The China Palace takeway in Dudley. Probably.

Over to you for a new Q!

It will be all right in the end. If it isn't all right yet, then it is not yet the end..

:woohoo: Just realised KentJohn has just scored his first MG T-Bar Quiz win :woohoo:

:welcome: to the MG Hall of Fame, you now have a slice of the pie, you are 1 of only 35 extra special T-Bar members :yesnod:

Look forward to your question, which will be the 436th of the MG quiz, so use the search function at the top right hand corner to check your answer and see if it has been asked before.

Questions can be on anything, a place, a car, a part, a person, anything as long as there is an MG link.

:woohoo: Hall of Fame :bust: and Toyo exhaust all in one week!

How good can life get?!

OK, my question is this:

The hood cover / tonneau cover on the F / TF was promoted as a safety feature - what 'elf and safety benefit did Rover / MG have in mind?

Have a good Friday everyone - I'm off to work now, so don't expect any response from me until about 6 tonight!

Further to my question and John's answer:

Production of the new TF commenced with a *101 VIN after the company's Longbridge telephone number (0121 475 2101) tradition.

I know the answer to the new Q: but won't have time to set a new question today, so over to someone else!!

It will be all right in the end. If it isn't all right yet, then it is not yet the end..

All the office landline numbers at MG Motor UK in Birmingham start with 251 after the 0121 dialling code. There's heritage for you!

Im guessing it was to stop the hood coming up / draught gusts catching the hood and blowing off? :)
