Whilst I continue rummaging through a lifetime of parts for cars I haven't owned in years, it might be worth your while having a look on eBay. You will find any number of single controllers, but amongst the weeds there is one orchid. 00160 a bit grubby but from a guy I dealt with in the past.

Good Morning,
My dcu is YWC 103380 i guess 001600 is a later part number and will fit.
I was told if a dcu comes off a twin airbag vehicle, when fitted to another car it will work without any programming.
Do you know if any dcu's need programming if bought for the right amount of airbags. I'm only talking F's here.
Regards
Pete.

This, Pete, is one for Roverlike.
He had part number flowing from every pore.

Update to last post, i have found a couple of YWC 103380 dcu's on ebay but they don't say if they came off single or twin airbag vehicle. Not sure which way to go 103380 is probably old, mine is 1995.
This is why i was asking about the programming.
If 001600 is for twin airbag and doesn't need programming it might be the best option.
Regards
Pete.

As Roverlike had stated the 00160 is dual & I “acquired” the two I have on the understanding that this was so.
My car is also an early f & although not supplied with dual bags the wiring was consistent with two.
My change from one to two wasn’t without issue as there was as much confusion then as now, but more so. Once the correct equipment was in place there have been no more problems, I did, however, change the original red under seat connector for the white/yellow from a Rover 25.
Have you checked out that listing I alluded to, it would make sense to me to think about that.
Do you know whether your car came with factory fit ‘bags, or might they be, as mine, retrofit.

YWC103380 is for twin airbag as well. So it seems you have twin airbags in your car. DCU does not need programming. If DCU is working, just swap and it should work.

Hi Roverlike
I have just seen these on the mgfntf bitz site.m
Does this mean you can re-program the dcu if you need too, or have they got it wrong and there just not re-programmable.
Bit of a learning curve going on here.
Hope you can read the attachments.
It says 001600 is the number for dual airbag but this one is for drivers only. The other one 103380 is for drivers side only.
This could make buying used difficult, many don't say if single or dual and one i contacted didn't know.
Regards
Pete.

EC5/RC5 airbag ECUs are not programmable ones. They need to be set in factory with proper equipment. Later MG TFs had programmable AB Autoliv airbag ECUs.
What is written on shown pages from Mgfntf bitz is rather confusing and against what I know up to now. I do not know if they find a way to tweak these ECUs by themselves. On the pages they also say they are tested. Having in mind that Mgfntf bitz are really good sellers, I do not know what to say on their offerings.

The only information I have on dual ‘bags is 00160 & if there is strong money involved for a device without that number or the number qualified by Roverlike, I would walking away.
I hold Bitz in high regard as I have bought & visited on numerous occasions, having been please with the outcomes.
Whether they have hacked the single I wouldn’t like to say but I think it unlikely. Information like that would be “bush fire” stuff & although ‘Bitz reconditioned stuff is very impressive, the time & effort in cracking single too dual airbag modules for very obsolete cars is an investment of questionable merit.

Hi Both
When i go into airbags on pscan i have to choose EC5/RC5 to move on, i have autoliv airbags and wondered if this was correct.
After reading your last mail i believe it is.
I may have a talk with mgfntf tomorrow it might be interesting.
I bought the drivers airbag and seat pretensioners from them as a guess before i bought the pscan. They were cheap.
I've had two auto electricians look at the problem but they didn't have pre OBD2 equipment so bought the pscan.
Thanks
Pete.

Hold on there’s something odd here! The Autoliv system is much later than your car, not instituted until tf’s or have I got hold of the wrong end of the stick.
I’m sure you couldn’t get the two mixed up, the later is in a more angled enclosure, my 00160 & others are radiused.
I’ve had a look at the ‘Bitz site & there’s not a lot of sense there. If a part number pertains to a part then the electronics contained within, should perform that function & not 50% of it.
I’d be giving them a bell, Darren will explain (it is to be hoped) he might even guide you towards a solution.
